Default help - failed smog test; ignition timing defective, N.O. = 568 when the max should be 467

the man who tested it said it might be the catalayct converter.

everything looked fine except for two things.

the first page says.

Ignition Timing (22 BTDC) - Defective

2nd page says.

NO (PPM)
Max = 467
Measured = 568
FAIL.

anyone know how i can fix this.

i just wasted 130 for a new pcv valve.
40 for a smog test.

and now i have to shoot some more cash on a diagnostic.

So basically my nitrogen output was too high at 15 MPH.

I did pass at 25 MPH.

Any Suggestion?

I need to pass before the 29th.

thanks.

after doing some research, i see that fixing the timing should fix this.

NOx problems are caused by combustion chamber temps.

emmission failures that get better w/ rpm are mechanical

mechanical failures that get good (perfect) with rpm are timing
cause timing can only advance so far before it hits full advance.

so:

in the world of mechanical or vacuum advance, the distributor can only advance so far before its at full advance. and it happens alot earlier than you'd think. this is why you set base timing so you have a starting point, but you're always going to end up at the full advance at sometime in the rpm band.

all the other stuff was eg diagnostics using 4 and 5 gas analyzers. you must be in a crazy state since they're 5 gassin and rollin.

i have no clue to what you are talking about.

my question is, well i pass my smog test if i fix my timing.

since the print out says "ignition timing defective".

you should pass if that is the only thing that failed. bring the timing back to factory specs and you should pass.

BTW why in the hell did you pay $130 for a PCV valve? I paid only $4.00 at my stealership last year.

well, the printout says ignition timing defective and its shooting out way too much N.O. at 15mph.

i not actualyl the PCV valve, its the Purge Control Solenoid. The black metal thing the sits on top of ur throttle body.

it just blew up again today. and my check engine light went back on. something is wrong with my car.

every tried going to those smog check stations that do repairs? My dad paid $60 for them to diagnose the problems and I repair the possible problems saving my dad some labor money. And he passed super clean after that.

BTW if the purge solenoid is blowing out then you got something clogged in the system. but take my advice and go to the smog station repairs and get it diagnose. will save you alot of headaches and money.

you don't understand, yes you have to go the smog test only station BUT if you failed you are allowed to go to those smog check station to find and repair the problem.

And my dad failed on his first try at those smog test only station as a gross polluter.
