HELP! car wont start
i just swapped a b18c1 into my 90 integ and its been running fine for 2 weeks so far with no problems til today. this morning i go to start my car and hear a slight grinding noise when i turn the key and the motor doesnt start. it sounds like the starter and flywheel arent touching enough or something. the starter turns but the car doesnt start. the last 2 weeks it started normal tho. so i took the LS starter out (using LS tranny) and put the gsr starter in and it does the same thing. anybody know wuts wrong?

Remove your starter and check the teeth. Substitute with a known good starter and try again.

If it is clicking and you checked to see you got power to the starter, then the starter is bad.
You can jump start a car with a bad starter. You're basically bypassing the starter system and using the momentum of the car and sudden clutch engagement to turn the engine over.

Re: HELP! car wont start (JHD_DA)
well today i put a starter in from a b16 and still does the same thing. and i know this starter works cause i started the b16 up after i tried it on mine. so my starters r probably still good. only thing i can think of left is that the starter teeth r hitting the side of the flywheel and not the teeth on the flywheel. but i dont see how that can happen. i dont know wut else to do or try but take it to a shop and have them look at it.

Re: (91tegrals)
yup flywheel looks normal. one of my boys said maybe the starter isnt getting enough power from the battery and cant extend out to turn the flywheel. but i tried jumping it and still doesnt work.

Spray some layout fluid or spray paint on the starter gear teeth. Turn it over and see where the paint is wearing off....if at all.
You can also try dabbing grease and installing the starter then removing it to see where and how much is contacting, but it'll probably get smeared on the install and removal, so it won't tell you conclusively.
I really can't think of anything, except that maybe the flywheel is from a non-B motor, but I also find that hard to believe b/c the different flywheels are probably different enough to prevent cross-installations. Maybe somebody else who's worked on D-, H-, and B- motors can elaborate or contradict me.

Re: (IN VTEC)
try this, turn your key until dash lights come on (position II). go out under your hood remove the small wire from your starter. then take a small piece of wire and jump current from the large wire, still attached to your starter, to where the small wire was attached to on the starter. if it works you have a problem in that circuit somewhere.

well today i took the starter off the tranny and started it and the gear popped out and spun so theres nuthing wrong with the starter. theres also no marks on the starter teeth or flywheel teeth but when the starter is connected it makes a grinding sound. heres a thought. maybe the starter gear pops out and hits the flywheel teeth but theres not enough power to turn the flywheel so it grinds internally in the starter? i dont know this **** is pissing me off.

Re: (JHD_DA)
well we found out y my car wont start today. the teeth on the flywheel came loose so when i start the car the teeth just spin around the flywheel. so this weekend i gotta rip the tranny off and change the flywheel ( lots of fun ). good thing i have a spare one laying around.
