help!! B18 valves switched is it ok?
Hey h-t, i just had to replace my head gasket. I had a spare head that was laying around so i had a local machine shop mill the head and do a valve job as well. after spending $375 i picked it up and upon inspection noticed that the valves were switched intake valves on exhaust side and exhaust on intake side of head. I had asked if there was a reason that they did it and was told that it didnt matter since they were the same size. unsure of this i took their work on it.
i installed the head and all was good for about 3 days when my mr gasket head gasket blew. so i purchased a felpro gasket and tried again. installed . ran once re tourqued head and ran again.. for about a day i was shooting out black smoke, and after reaching operating temp wouldnt hold a consistent idle. if i let the car idle for 5 min it would dip down to 400 rpm and almost die before jumping back up to 1000rpm.
i checked and adjusted valve clearences, did a compression test, tested injectors, fuel pressure, and checked my new plug wires, cap, rotor, fuel pump, and fuel filter. after everything checked out i buttoned it back up and checked the mechanical timing one more time. im shooting out a little bit of grey smoke no, and still smells like burnt carbon and or gas. the idle still doesnt hold as consistently as it should, but its not nearly as bad as it was. almost sounds like a very slight miss every once in a while but not as bad as it was before checking everything.
i know that was a little long winded, but does anyone think that the shop switching the valves has anything do do with my problem.
i have been stressing out on this for about 2 weeks now and am almost ready to just buy a new motor and be done with it.

yea... that machine shop is dumb. Take it back and tell them they need to correctly fix it, or your goin to take it to a diff shop and have the new shop charge them for their **** up. Hopfully they didn't f*** the head up

That machine guy is f*ckin stupid. The intake valves diameter is slightly larger than the exhaust side.
Take the head back and show him the valves spec in acura manual and smack the sh*t out if him for not takin the time measuring them.
Then take one of each intake and exhaust valve and shove it up his a**, and ask him if feels the difference now!!!!
Then tell him to buy u a new headgasket and head bolts.

ITT:Stupidity getting the head milled and changing HG's and you didn't know that all the valves were not the same.....cmon. Not that this is all your fault but still you should have looked into it more.
