1k is not too bad (can be normal)... If everything is stock and you never played with it, you can check the throttle cable to see if its too tight.

All stock idle for any car or make should not exceed 1000 rpm. It should always be somewhere between the range of 500-800 rpm. Of coarse this is under the condition the car is fully warmed up with the radiator fan spun at least twice.

Check your IACV and FITV. They are both located near the throttle body. FITV can cause high or low idles. IACV can cause idle to raise or lower after "gassing it a bit" Make sure connection is good and I would recommend you take off your IACV and clean it with some carb cleaner. Do the same to your FITV.

FITV is located right under the throttle body. It should have coolant hose connected to it. If you see none, that model motor did not come with one. It's okay if it never came with one.

IACV is located in back of the intake manifold. Between the intake manifold and firewall. It is near the throttle body. It also has coolant lines connected to it. Remove it and spray some carb cleanr in the holes to remove dirt.

I also recommend you removing your whole throttle body and spray/clean that down. Make sure you spray in all the tiny holes.

After doing all this, check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold, you can check by spraying carb clean around there to see if there is a different sound in idle.

Make sure timing is correct, use a timing light to make sure No. 1 cylinder is firing at 0TDC. No. 1 cylinder is the cylinder closest to your power steering, windshield fluid, etc.

It would be best to use oem spark plug wires and spark plug. You did not mention what car and model or motor you are working with so I cannot give you specific details. Doing all this will not only cure your problem but make your car run like a champ again. Good luck.

Yep, one of those is your problem. You probably also need to clean your iacv. Is that a stock P72 or a chipped p72? Sounds like a chipped ecu to me...

Funny because I've owned 6-7 GSRs and 1k isnt normal. 700-850 is "normal"

lol cams will definetly funk your idle up if it goes below that it may stall out, but you can try cleaning your iac

(edit) also what lv6l said is all good info.

okey i might not own a lot of gsr but my gsr starts up at 1100-1200 rpm then when the engine warms up then goes down to 800-900rpm.
