I suspected a vacuum leak in my 1999 GSR and did a smoke test. The test revealed a very noticeable leak coming from the area behind the spring attached to the IAB shaft.

Has anyone ever taken one of these apart? I'm wondering if I can remove an O-ring or something without taking off the whole intake manifold. Or, even if I take off the manifold, are there serviceable seals for the IAB shaft?

I don't think this is a serviceable part. I don't see fasteners to open it up, and there are no part numbers for any type of seal inside the unit. I would try a used replacement, or a new unit from Acura.

Here's the part number for a new valve. It's around $60-70.

Thanks for the reply. All the online Acura places I've checked show that the valve assembly is discontinued. I think 17129-P72-000 is the diaphragm and 17120 is the valve assembly, including diaphragm. Do you know a place that still sells the whole assembly?

I had the very same issue a few days ago. unfortunately i disabled the secondaries(Due to some bad information). removed the assembly and left the actual shaft inside the intake and used RTV to seal the leak at the shaft. Currently searching for a oem manifold with the butterfly intact.

When you took it apart to remove the butterflies, did you take the whole manifold off the head? I'm wondering if I have to take off the whole manifold to service this thing, or if I can disassemble at the IAB and leave the fuel rail, etc still intact.

You can disassemble it without removing the intake from the head but I would suggest just removing the entire manifold because it's a pain in the *** to put it back together while fighting the hoses and wiring.
