gsr compression #'s....too low???
i just did a compression test on my 98 gsr (H/E, 50K miles) and got 165, 170, 170, 175. i've heard that gsr's should average about 200 across the board...are my compression numbers a bit low? what could be the problem? any help/advice would be appreciated...TIA.

Yeah I don't think you did the test right. Also disconnect power to the ecu (backup fuse)... else the cylinders will get flooded with fuel and all the oil will wash away.

Re: gsr compression #'s....too low??? (dustin)
Mine are 220 across the 4 cylinders with the car partially warmed up with my intake cam at +5, exh +3
I supposedly have 11.8 compression on a stock GSR bottom end with a mugen headgasket and DPR stage 6 headwork.
Maybe when I set the cams to 0-0 and warm the car fully I'll get better numbers..

Re: gsr compression #'s....too low??? (SUPER VTEC-BOY)
right now i just have a dc 421 header w/ apexi dunk exhaust...i took my cai for the winter. the test was done when the engine was still a bit warm...i let it sit for an hour after i got home before i did the test. as for beating the **** out of it....hardly. i'm a victim of an exhibition of speed contest ticket, so i usually drive like an old lady, shifting around 3K. occasionaly, i take her up a bit high (6-8K) on freeway on-ramps, but thats about it. so far, i've gone to the track twice which were a couple of months apart. dustin: yes, the fuel injection fuse was taken out prior to testing.
edit: btw, would the fact that i'm pretty much due for a vavle adjustment have any impact on the numbers?
