Default Finally took the Turbo Ls to the track, 1/4 mile times inside.

Videos Mine is the White Turbo Ls all the other turbo cars were my friends/members from here on honda-tech. Thier names and times are on page two The two runs you see of mine is the one I redlighted and bogged, and the second was a 2.0 60 ft, with a 13.4

http://www.teamskidmark.com/video/tracknight.wmv

Well after patienly putting together my setup. It was finally ready for the track. I went in the hope of 12's, since the car is making the power, it's just a matter of driving it into the 12's. I was planning on going to the local 1/8 mile to practice my 60 ft prior to going to the 1/4 but I was busy at work this week, so I had to use this as my practice night to learn the car.

Here is a rundown of the setup

97 Turbo Ls 82k miles
sc34 turbo
3" exhuast
Hondata
550cc injectors
Stock intake manifold
conservative tune
Power= 271/253 ft lbs at 14.5 psi
Bfg Drag radials
Full interior

Car weighs 2725 with me in it, not bad considering it's full interior(Recaro's), oem body kit, Itr spoiler with minimal weight reduction.

This was my first time at the track in 2 years, first time to the track in this car/setup, and my first time launching on Bfg Drag radials

My first six or seven runs were strictly made to find the sweet spot to launch at, the first 6 runs did not yield better than a 2.5 60 ft so im not even going to waste time posting them

Here are the last 3 runs of the night

R/T .537
60 ft .1.947
330 5.536
1/8 8.548
mph 82.34 WTF
1000 11.147
1/4 13.339
MPH 103.31

This is when i noticed my car felt sluggish up top, because I went to the track on 14.5 psi, however I knew it didnt feel like 1 bar. Turns out I was actually just under .8 bar about 11 psi because of a leaking boost controller .

Next run

R/T .445
60 ft 2.021
330 5.677
1/8 8.672
MPH 82.63
1000 11.257
1/4 13.432
MPH 103.93

Last run of the night

R/T .473
60 ft 2.097
330 5.707
1/8 8.688
MPH 83.07
1000 11.268
1/4 13.435
MPH 104.39

I was not happy with the 1/4 times, but I am extremely pleased with the 1.9 60 ft and the fact that I got to take her out and get a feel for her. My best mph of the night was 106, but this was at the beginning of the night when i was hitting full boost, however i was still learning to drive the car so the time was like a 14.0@106

Plans are to get a new boost controller today, take out another 25-30 lbs from the car, and the car should run 12.7 next time around.

Stay tuned ill be hitting the track again soon

The quarter mile times look about right for your setup. At this point, I would consider moving to something with shorter gearing than the LS tranny (despite what rumors there are, shorter gears make for faster acceleration). I would also consider going to a lighter flywheel.

Yeah id kill for a Gsr Tranny. My last car was a b20 vtec gsr tranny turbo and Wow do I miss that Tranny. The Ls 3-4th is a dawg

Yeah the rumors are mostly spread by people who don't know. They think that the Ls tranny is the **** because you can stay in boost longer Retards acceleration is what moves you down that track. But for the Tards who still dont know id be more than happy to trade you my Ls tranny for your Gsr

Yeah when I did my clutch last month, I pondered getting An Act Pro Lite 12.5 lbs or even better Iconsidered getting an Stock Itr one, but funds fell short. This car however was built nicely but on a budget, so Im going to squeeze every bit I can out of it by keeping it simple and then when it's time for more i'll get deeper into it.

Right now im mostly just trying to Run mid 12's in a nice stock reliable car, with a simple proven turbo kit.

Personally, for function I would look at the Comptech flywheel. For price I would find a stock ITR one and have it lightened. Good luck with it.

Nice times bud

Im glad to see you got to the track. Ill be watching and waiting for your next thread. For mid 12's

This guy has helped me piece together my kit and is a great guy. He deserves every ounce of power on that car...

Ill message you when i get back to college, see how things are going. My setup is about 3 weeks away from being done. Just swapped my ITR tranny out last night and got my GSR tranny w/ clutch and flywheel.

Congrats man. Nice work...and even better ride.

Just buy the gears. There are quite a bit of final drives out there that you could buy. Those are some good times. Best of luck on your quest for 12s.

Thanks pat, Im always willing to help. Let me know when your done Id like to see the finished results.

As far as upgrades as of now, Im going to keep everything as is. Once i reach my goal and am ready for more I will make that next step.

See the thing with turbo is, to have a succesful setup you have to make sure all your parts work together well. Sometimes adding things here and there isn't the best thing to do. I like to plan things out and stick to the plan.

I may get some Jim fab bars before my next visit to the track though. That is one of those mods that will be benificial no matter what I do. It willeliminate wheel hop(which breaks axles) and it might help me hit consitant 1.9's

I still can't belive I managed a 1.9 60 ft on stock diff, and my first time at the track

that trap speed is very high for your ET... your times are OK but i really think 12s are HIGHLY likley.

Did you mean unlikely or likely

Actually I felt the trap speed was low, These runs were made on 11.5-12 psi leaking, so It wasn't even a clean 12 psi It was leaking, which any kind of a leak in a turbo car vastly hurts performance.

Next time I go to the track i'll be launching like a **** and with 3 more psi

My friend Direp972 ran 12.8@109 on pretty much the same setup, same chassis, with 4 more hp, but less torque. So 12's are by no means out of the question

I'll keep you guys updated.

It's actually a custom kit Similar to a Revhard, but upgraded in the areas where the Revhard lacks. Not lacks but room for improvement.

Sc34 turbo
Inline Pro Manifold
Revhard/Tony1 Custom Downpipe 2.5-3"
Precision FMIC
tial 35mm
Walbro 255
3" Kteller exhuast with 3" n1
Rc 550cc injectors
Hondata 2b

My actual turbo kit cost me $2500, everything was brand new, I had several hookups and I shopped around.

The rundown went like this

$2500 Turbo Kit
$400 exhuast
$250 gauges(greddy)
$Hondata/Rc/Ecu $500
$Tuning $270

Thats right at 4k for everything, and i mean everything down to the nuts and bolts

There are several ways to save $$$ If i was tighter on $$ i could have pieced a similar kit with out some minor addons, extras for around 2k for the actual kit, and I could have went with Autometer gauges to save $$ ect....

Custom kits are very poplular these days it allows you to get the exact parts you want, while saving $$ at the same time.

The answer is obvious, the Ls has tons of potential.

The first few runs I had mad whell hop because I wasn't launching high enough, and it was falling it on it's face bogging. Im really glad I didn't break an axle, my friend b18bek broke his axle on his first run on street tires .

Once I found my spot 5300-5400, It was about as clean as it gets considering I dont have an Lsd, or Traction bars.

Yeah my last turbo gsr was stolen in november of 02, and I think I had taken it to the track in April or may of that year. So yeah about two years, wow does time fly. See after it was stolen I left the scene completely for 8-10 months, but I couldnt stay away and I began searching for another Integra.

Yeah 1.947, I still can't believe it, when i got the timeslip I didn't even care about the time I saw the 60 ft and I was like

Props to the guys with full interior, a/c and power steering who don't sacrifice the finer things in life for .3 seconds. Good luck and keep me informed.
