excess fuel. (black smoke)
92 da8 obdo2 b16a block b18c 96 pr3-4 head
motor's freshly installed, timings good and sounds the part!
problem is now im blowing a sh*t load of black smoke and overheating.
i found black smoke is generally excess fuel not getting burnt/too much fuel in cylinder. (correct me if i am wrong)
the head has had work, new valves seats etc, ported not polished =( acid dipped.
block standerd as.
things i have tryed: nothing. droped the tank(had old gas) and put more in. havnt turned it over yet.
what is causing it? and how can i fix it.
been searching all over for info and havnt found anything usefull

Re: excess fuel. (black smoke)
do you have an after-market fuel pressure regulator, or is it stock? sounds like too much fuel delivery to me..
as for the over heating..since its a fresh motor im assuming you performed new water pump timing belt service..any signs of blown headgasket (milky looking oil? coolant smells sweet coming out the exhuast?)

Re: excess fuel. (black smoke)
i brought the motor as is. got told had a new headgasket an havnt had it running long enough to bring up the milky looking oil. its still gold. an nah deffintly not a sweet smell, iv'e expirienced that before =/
the block's still stock.
but you would think he would have of used a new if not near new water pump after goin threw the trouble of sending the head to the shop and spending the $$$
yup stock fpr
could i have hooked the vacume lines up wrong? would that efect it?
dirty or clogged injecters would retard the amount of fuel aswell ae?

Re: excess fuel. (black smoke)
im sure its not oil. no sign of blue in there and its giving a gas smell from the engine bay.
as for ecu im not sure.
i havent changed it and i use to have a b16a2, so it would be the one that came with the conversion package many moons ago

and as to jdmtyperdc2 cheers man!

when i was running my b16a2 with my ecu there was never any problems at all with fuel.

Re: excess fuel. (black smoke)
Buy an aftermarket fuel pressure regulater, a wideband O2, and a tuning device. As for the overheating, maybe are bubbles in the coolant lines due to just putting the motor in.

Re: excess fuel. (black smoke)
would a 97 spec itr fuel regulator do the trick? can get fuel rail fpr an fuel line to filter for $50.
wide band 02 sensor? aftermarket aswell?
yea im not sure wat it is, been busy so havnt worked on the car for a few days.
gunna get the black smoke gone then worry about that..
just a thought, i was thinking since im burning so much fuel would that cause it to overheat?

Re: excess fuel. (black smoke)
I would recommend an aftermarket FPR with a guage, unless you buy a fuel pressure tester, but that would just be a pain. And a wideband is aftermarket, stockers are narrowbands. Widebands are a necessity when tuning, it accurately reads your air/fuel ratio.
And running lean would cause overheating, too much fuel would not.
