Default Ever had your windshield washer tank leak before?

Filled up my washer tank this evening with water, only to find most of it leaked out all over the garage floor within a few seconds.

Great, something else I gotta get under the car for and fix. Damn car.

Anyone else ever had a leaky washer tank before?

Yup, mine is, just get a new one at the junkyard, on ebay, etc. Could be the whole washer tank or one of hoses that is connect is rip/torn.

yeah mine leaked before. The hose connecting to the bottom of the tank were loose. Easy fix. But its a hassle to get under.

Yeah I've still got the full fender liners and splash guards under my car, so I have to pull all that down to get at this thing.

I put water in mine not thinking about winter and it froze over. I started to take off all the splash guards and stuff to get at it to thaw it out. PITA. I ended up just pumping hot water in it til it thawed out. I'm surprised the expansion of the ice when it froze didn't crack mine.

The freezing water shouldn't crack anything if there's room for the water to expand upwards in the tank. Though I could be wrong and may be the reason why my tank is leaking. I have wondered lately why it seems like the water in the tank runs out so quickly. I filled it not too long ago and it's already been out for several weeks now. At first I thought the Honda Fit washer nozzles I retrofitted onto my car just spray more water than the original 2-jet Integra nozzles. But now I see it may be because most of the water leaks out.

Yeah I usually put water in my washer tank, and in years past I would just disconnect the hose near the shock tower, point it out towards the ground and pull the washer stalk with the ignition on. That's funny to watch.

In recent years, though, I just leave the water in there and try to remember not to use the washers. Last winter, though, I was driving home from work one time and it was barely at the freezing mark. I accidentally pulled the washer stalk and pushed down to activate the wipers, and BAM instance ice! Couldn't see a damn thing. I was very lucky that I could see out of one area enough to pull over and scrape my windshield.

My reservoir, Lines and motor were frozen solid so i couldn't drain it buy holding the motor on until i thawed it out. It was so frozen the motor wouldn't even make a humming sound like it was trying to pump the fluid. I use my washer fluid in the winter as deicer, its a lot nicer than scraping the windows off on a freezing gold day.

This happened to my silverado last winter, the cold water caused the water reservoir to crack, it was like 18 degrees outside, but I was driving so that would lower the temp down even more.

Forgot about this thread, figured I'd post up what really happened.

Well, the tank itself was not leaking. I removed the fender linings, filled up the tank, and looked underneath and saw nothing dripping. I was like what da heck??

Several years ago, I pulled out all the tubing inside the car going to the rear washer sprayer since it never really worked. I unplugged the pump serving the rear sprayer, and just looped the piece of tubing coming off the pump over beside the washer tank.

So I moved that tube around a bit, and it ALLL came gushing out! What happened was that over the years I guess, that tube moved around such that the highest point was below the upper level of water in the tank when full. And due to gravity and water pressure, once the water in the tank got above the highest point of that looped tube, it started draining out and just kept going until empty.

So I pulled that piece of tubing back up into the engine bay, and for good measure stuck a screw in the end of it and sealed it off with some JB Weld. It's never gonna leak again!

I guess really I should get a 4-door washer tank without that second pump and tubing, but oh well.
