evaporative emission purge trouble
my car is throwing a cel 91 Evaporative Emission Control System insufficient purge flow .....How do i solve this problem???? Is it the evaporative emission canister or valve??

its the black metal purge control valve. that sits on top of ur throttle body.
theres a little harness the connects to it.
it opens and closes.
if urs is like mines, its stuck on the closed posistion.
u need a new one.
but i think mines was throwing a code 92.

I have a 96 gsr. I have no mods. It is throwing a cel 91 Fuel Tank Pressure Circuit. But the site says it is 91 Evaporative Emission Control System insufficient purge flow. Then the odb2 computer say P0453 Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) Sensor Circuit High Voltage..what should i do... all this researching is just confusing...I think that it is the circuit but i still don't know how to fix that either.

I've tried that too....and i tried fuel injector cleaner, new tune up. (Includes new spark plugs, oil, oil filter, thermostat, and radiator, and tried the seafoam thing) After all of these i always reset the ecu but it come back on.

What's different from year to year? Mine's '95 so the details might be a little different...
Purge control solenoid - see if it works. Maybe make up jumpers to energize it directly from the battery. MityVac to verify that it opens/closes.
Vacuum hose from that solenoid over to EVAP canister. Clogged? Disconnected?
There's a purge control valve on top of the canister. Vacuum from the solenoid valve opens & closes that valve. Make sure it works.
Bigger vacuum hose from there to the throttle body. Is it plugged? Disconnected?
Remove the EVAP canister & check if it's broken, plugged, or ??? Mine hasn't screwed up so I don't really know what's the common way for it to fail.
Your '96 is OBD-2, & that system is more complicated. For example the Helm book for my '98 Accord has more than a dozen pages of troubleshooting stuff between all the different EVAP system faults.

where is the purge control solenoid and how do i check it? How do i check if the purge control valve is working right? none of the vaccum plugs seem to be disconnected. I was looking in the reapir service manuel and the purge valve(I think) has two vaccum lines to it. one on top and the other on the bottom. Can you verify what you have on your car for me? If it has two vaccum line or one. For mines i have only one on the top and a cap to close the bottom hole.

Your '96 purge valve is #5 up on top. The lower hose goes to the intake manifold?
My '95 purge valve is # 8 below, it's vent cap is #6. So mine has 3 hose nipples.
To test it, you can energize it with jumpers to the battery, see if it opens & closes. I don't know whether it's supposed to be normally-open or normally-closed.

Do you mean connect the jumpers to the battery and the other end to the valve?

Just make up a couple pieces of wire with 1/8" spade connectors. Plug them onto the pins on the valve, then touch them to the battery posts. Usually polarity doesn't matter, but if you turn on the car you can use a meter to see which pin of the plug is supposed to get (+) voltage.
You'll hear it click when you energize it. Then check by blowing or sucking thru it. I don't know if it's normally-open or normally-closed, but you should make sure it changes state.
