Engine Bay - Dash - Door Jam:Vin Questions
Like any town people buy cars they want to build during the winter time. Most popular around here is the Acura Integra. My buddy wanted to buy an integra(probably to be like me ). So he found one on craigs-list, but was located in another state. He went out and bought it. Not sure how much he paid. He drove it back to our town. Swapped engine(basically someone elses build). Drives and runs good. Then my other friend who came over(Who's also into integras and knows the most about them out of all my friends). He started to notice things about the car. He asked "What year is the car?" My friend replied "97." Then he said "Well alot about this car says its a 2000, like the windows/trim, door handles/arm rests ect...." Then he goes on, and takes a look at the title. Title says it's a LS 1997. He checks the Dash vin and the engine bay vin(matches), then goes to the door jam. The door jam vin says its a 2000 LS.
Then he looks at the Engine(GSR Swap), gets under the car and see's the vin on the swap is different(Of course since its a swap). Then looks at the vin for the Trans, and again different vin then everything else(dash/enginebay, doorjam, block)
My question is...
How can this be? How can the dash and engine bay match but not the door jam? I've never seen anything like this before. Both my friends don't use forums so I thought I'd find out for them.
LMK..Please!

Sounds like someone hacked it together. So youre saying the door jam sticker says its a 2000, and the firewall and dash say its a 97? I would look for signs of welding/bondo by the firewall then. And have your friend run a vin check for the vins on the car. Different vins on the body isnt a good sign
I guess the ither possibility is the front end was smashed and was replaced with a different one. But I dont know why they would use the 97s title

So if the front end(engine bay) was replaced then the back end should of been used for the title?
I called the dmv. They said they don't do vin checks here. So where else is a good place?

At least then the door jam and dash would match (as far as az goes, dmv has never checked the firewall, and always go off the dash and door jam.)

Alright. I'll let him know.
I was also searching a good place to vin check. A lot of people said CarFax isn't accurate? Or is that only in some cases? Is carfax the #1 place to look?
Does anyone have an account on carfax?

It isnt 100% but you might find answers on the car, carfax shouldn't be used as a final authority on a car's history, but it is good to have
