Icon2 Which ECU do I use with the B18C1 / DOHC VTEC GSR p72-2 Head / Engine

I have built a Integra GSR B18C1 / DOHC VTEC Engine with a P72-2 Head.
Does anybody know which ECU is supposed to work with this engine.
We have a P72 ECU, and it has a wire harness / adapter for the OBD I to OBD II conversion. The wire harness is OBD II type connectors, and the test connector is under the drivers side dash.

We also have a 37820 - P2P - A12 ECU with type OBD II connectors.
This unit puts out OBD II code to the test connector, so I know the wiring harness is good. The trouble is with this ECU, the P2P - A12, the idle starts out great, then as the engine warms up, it runs really rough, and then wants to stall in idle.

We took the car to the smog pretest, with the P72 ECU, the OBD I type, but it will not put data out to the port that has to be used to test the car, and the idle is running too rich, with no load.

Does anybody out there have a solution to this problem?
Which ECU is supposed to be used with this B18C1 / DOHC VTEC P72-2 Head / Engine anyways... I looked it up and the charts say a P72-2 which is an OBD II type ECU for this block / head...is this right?

Or can we use either of these other ECU with this engine and modify it to put out the correct data? For example, use the P2P ECU OBD II type, and rechip it or perhaps make another modification to sensors wiring ???

We are at a loss right now. We need to get this car to pass smog.

Email me with any answers please. theartofdying@live.com

Thanks - Ed

Default Re: Which ECU do I use with the B18C1 / DOHC VTEC GSR p72-2 Head / Engine

you can use p72-a02 or a03 for obd2-a, obd2b is p72-a04 and the obd1 is ao1

you can not modify other obd2 ecu's to work but you can mod obd1 ecus via crome, hondata etc
