Driver seat-belt problem on '91 sedan.
Had no luck posting on g2ic, searched g2ic and google, called Acura, etc. The car is a '91 Integra GS sedan.
Anyways, my auto seat-belt doesn't retract when you close the door. The seat-belt control box emits a series of beeps and the seat-belt light flashes every few minutes while I'm driving. If I close the door and manually drag the seat-belt back all the way, it will stay until I open the door...then it moves forward without any issues/beeps/flashes like nothing is wrong. Close the door, doesn't retract. Obviously the motor is working, just only in one direction...there has to be a particular reason why it doesn't retract, like it's not getting the signal to do it's job when the door shuts and the car is on.
I've tried the following remedies; doused the door latch assembly in wd-40 while working the latch mechanism, opened and closed the door repeatedly, turned car off and back on several times, unplugged and plugged in seat-belt control box, swapped seat-belt control box with a spare I had on hand, tested wires to/from seat-belt motor, checked all related wires for shorts, checked all related plugs/connections. No change whatsoever.
Numerous people on g2ic, and from google searches, had the same exact problem. Many have had the problem fixed for free, and even had a rental loaned to them at no cost, from Acura under some sort of seat-belt recall/life-time warranty thing. I called my local Acura and they told me..."bring it in, we'll start off with a $55 charge for diagnostic/figuring out what's wrong, then we'll go from there on cost. We don't think it will fall under the life-time seat-belt warranty for your car." So Acura is out of the question, will cost me too much money and I prefer to work on my own vehicles.
Does anyone have any other remedies known to fix this problem? I have to get this fixed asap, I feel very uncomfortable driving a car with no airbags AND no seat-belt. I also don't want to rig it so it's retracted and unplugged, I'd rather have it working the way it should.
