Default Driver Door Lock Problem

I have a 96 Integra LS 2 dr. It has power door locks but only the passenger side works. I can manually lock and unlock the interior lock when the door is shut, when the door is open the lock is stuck unlocked. I can try and push it to the lock position but it won't stay in that position. I took the door panel off and there isn't any unnecessary strain on the door lock rods from when the doo is shut to open. When the door was open I took a screwdriver and switched the door latch mechanism to shut/locked. The door door lock then started to work manually. I pulled the door handle to release mechanism and the door lock again would not lock while door is open. Any ideas? Anyone come across this problem before?

- No car alarm is installed.

Just like every other Honda/Acura I've ever been in, you have to hold the door handle fully open, and then push the locking button/lever. Honda's epic "make it harder to lock your keys in your car, even though your dumbass is on the phone with Pop-A-Lock right now." system.

The only cars I'm not sure about are the '01-up models. Worked with the current Accords in rental, but they didnt require it, so...

I got an after-market remote for my 01 prelude when I bought it in 05. Until yesterday when the remote needed a battery I was able to lock driver's door from the inside door lock as I got out of car. I replaced battery and remote works. Now I unable to lock driver's door as described above. Driver's door must be closed, then the remote or key locks the door. Can't do the quicker way I did for 14 yrs! Any ideas? Or just live with it??

Why would you want to lock the door before closing the door? Just close it and press the lock button....

My problem is that the key fob will no longer unlock or lock my car doors. I tried my second fob which has a new battery and it won’t work either despite working last week. I then discovered that my button on the driver’s side that locks/unlocks all doors, doesn’t work either. I use the key to open the door now. I usually pick up my granddaughter from middle school so I was trying to figure out how to open her side. I happened on this little trick - I open the car with key, get in and close the door. I started the engine, then open my door and all the locks pop up! Wow what a time and life saver!

Now I need to figure out what is going on with the locks and the main lock/unlock button so I can get it fixed. Also need to figure how this ties into the key fob. If I get it fixed will the fob automatically work again? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Judy
