Default Dizzy Distributor Rotor Rubbing against cap? suggestions?

so i have came to a conclusion that my dizzy rotor is rubbing against the cap because when i start the car, the dizzy make a buzzing/crickling/whining sound...after about 2-4 mins of warming up it goes away...

i replaced the rotor and cap, and the rotor was corroded badly...now when i take off the cap the brand new rotor has the same issue...

my question is should i put washers in between the bolts that hold the cap in and if so, should i use some sort of gasket or rubber to cover dirt from getting in the clearance?

just make sure you have everything on there properly...it should not rub. if it does then maybe you need to change your whole dizzy...

get the manual off of hondahookup.com

first remove cap, then remove phillips head screw that holds on the rotor, remove rotor

remove terminal a and b that is connected on the ignition coil and remove the 2 bolts i believe that hold on the ignition coil

slide it out and replace

yea inefficiency in the ignition system to ignite fuel in the combustion chamber will lead to poor MPG.

If the rotor is hitting the cap, there should be a wear mark. Have you seen one?

Does your distributor spin freely when cold? You will have to remove it to test it. Your distributor could have a bad bearing.

Just had this problem. Car sputtered a bit early in the day. Later that day I was driving home and the car would only got like 5mph and then shut off completely. Having been around Hondas a while I checked the distributor first. (I've had alot of cap and rotor problems in the past). I took of the cap and saw that 2 of the 4 diodes sticking out of the cap had metal shavings worn off. Turns out the bearings were bad in the distributor. I ordered a new dizzy for distributorking.com, put it on and the car is fine new.

Hope this helps.

yes the rotor has a distinct wear mark, much darker color metal where it seems to be hitting...

what do you mean by spinning freely when cold? and how would i test this?///test the bearing as well??

Spin it by hand to test the bearings. Post a picture of the cap and rotor.

I would pull and spin it with the cap and rotor on it. I would be feeling for inconsistent turning resistance, grinding, etc.

If you can physically see that the rotor is contacting the cap. You may have found the problem. I am just perplexed as to how that can happen. You need to post a picture of the rubbing.
