Default Disable auto door lock?

I apologize if this sounds like a dumb question (n00b to 'teg world) but I figured I would ask anyway. I have a '97 GSR, and I can't stand when the doors do the auto lock thing after I start it. I've almost gotten locked out of my car a few times.

Was this a standard thing on the 'tegs or is it a remnant of some alarm system? More importantly, how can I disable it?

Thanks in advance.

thats an alarm option, find out how to disable it through your alarm's manufacturer's user manual.

I figured it was something from an alarm but I never got the remote when I bought the car...hmmmm. Just more of a reason to get an alarm, or at least find out what happened to the remotes.

It's just inconvenient if you don't have a remote separate from your keys, because I like to start my car when it's cold and let it warm up. And if I leave the door open when I start the car and forget to close the door then unlock it again (because it won't unlock initally with the door open), there is the potential to lock myself out of the car if I just hop out and close the door. Simply because I can be an inattentive dumbass.

I just enabled that feature on my alarm. It's always something weird like turn the ignition on, hit the valet switch a couple times, ignition off, and back on again, then go through the settings. Best bet would be figure out what kind of alarm is on there. I've locked myself out a bunch of times doing that, but I have a second remote, so now, I figure it's safer to start the car, let it warm up locked, and open it again. I'd hate to add my 'teg to the stolen list...

the stock alarms will lock the doors if all doors are closed when you start the car. if its a aftermarket alarm and you dont have the remote then any alarm shop can pull the brain for ya.

On my 98 teg, it will automatically lock the doors when the car is started and unlock when the ignition is turned off. If I were to open the door (while the engine is running) and then close the door, it will not automatically lock again. Also, if I tried to start the car with my door open, it will not automatically lock. With this type of setup, I don't think I could lock myself out of my car.
