difference between manual and automatic ignition switch
I'm in the process of installing a manual ignition switch on an automatic car. Can someboy tell me the specific differences between them. There are two components in the automatic ignition switch that has wires going to them which the manual ignition switch does not have. One of them, I believe is to prevent the owner of the car removing the key on gears other than neutral and park. I verified this by starting the car (with the manual ignition switch), and I found that I can shut the car off, and remove the key while it is still in drive.
The other one is what confuses me. im not sure what it does or the function of it. It is a black little component that bolts on to the ignition switch. It has a little button on the bottom that goes into the ignition switch, but I have no clue what it is. Can somebody shed some light towards this. Im sure its not important, but I would like to know what it is, so I can tell the owner of the car that I'm installing what she is missing. Thanks
