Cyl 4 misfire, black spark plug, maintenance, still misfiring...
car is an 01 gsr and stock b18c1 with no mods except for an aem v2 intake
I was driving back to las vegas from san diego. about 100 miles away, i got a flashing check engine light, and loss of power but i was able to limp it home.
i noticed it only seemed to misfire at idle, once above 1500 rpm the engine didnt "bog"
the next day i replaced cap/rotor/wires/and plugs
3 plugs looked white, the cyl 4 plug was black. my car did burn oil im guessing cyl 4 was the reason why.
after the tune up, cyl 4 still misfired, engine bogged, pulled the cyl 4 spark plug boot while it was running and no change in bogging.
so ive been searching and it seems the misfire could be a clogged injector, but i have to diagnose it more, i have not yet done a compression check or checked for spark/fuel etc. to address the other problem.
So my questions are
do i need to address the buring oil problem before the misfire will go away? does the black spark plug mean i just need new piston rings? Thanks for any help, my car is not driveable at the moment.
:extra info, about 500 miles ago, i got a CEL for cyl 4 misfire, but i asked here and since it went away someone said not to worry about it. i know i should have investigated it !facepalm.
