Default Crankshaft Position Sensor

We just swapped my sons (we were told 1995) B18B motor from an Integra with a B20B from a 1998 CRV. We've noticed a few small differences that have caused a bit more work than originally expected.

The crankshaft position sensor on the Integra is mounted to the oil pump behind the pulley's and the mounting holes don't line up on the CRV engine. Apparently the CRV has a crankshaft position sensor built into the distributor that we can't use on his 1997 Civic. We fixed this problem by installing the Integra oil pump on the CRV engine and everything bolted up perfectly. Once the engine was all put back together, we thru a P1337 check engine code. I tested and verified that the crankshaft position sensor was indeed bad with an ohm rating in the 2400's. When I called Acura to order a new sensor, they told me that the 1995 Integra didn't have the crankshaft postion sensor on the oil pump but that the 1996 engine did. I'm just hoping that the $125 crank sensor that I ordered is the correct one. Does anyone have any experience with this sensor and motor that could shed any light verifying which sensor is needed before we pull it all apart again? I still have the old B18B block that we pulled out of the car. Is there any way to verify what year the engine really is?

Thanks,
Ron

Obd2 engines used the crank fluctuation sensor down by the oil pump. The distributor does have a crank position sensor inside.

The sensor you ordered will fit your crv oil pump fine.

The diagnostic system has a pulser rotor on the crankshaft and a pulse pickup sensor on the block(ckf). The ECM monitors crank speed fluctuation based on the rpm sensor signal (from distributor) and judges that an engine misfire occured if the fluctuation goes beyond a predetermined limit.

Resistance shouldve been b/w 1.6k-3.2k ohm. Sounds like it was in spec...?

You hit it bang on. I guess I'm getting a bit too old to remember my metric conversions. I forgot that 1K Ohm = 1000 Ohm's. That means that the crank sensor is good and I don't need to take apart the entire front of the engine. Thank you.

That said, I checked the wires from the ECU back to the Crankshaft Sensor and I still get good Ohm readings. Looks like we'll be going to the salvage yard to get another ECU. His ECU number is 37820-p75-a02.

Thanks,
Ron

I still can't get the CKF to read. Since this ia a B20B JDM motor how can I get it to read properly and not throw the P1337? I installed the B18B oil pump so that the CKF sensor would install properly, but I'm not sure what else I can do. Any help or guidance appreciated.

Thanks,
Ron
