Default correct ignition timing for 94 gsr?

im just wondering whats the correct timing for a 94 integra gsr? i took my car in to get it smog and it failed so i looked over the result and it says my timing is at 18. A lot of people have told me that the correct spec is at 14 so i called a local shop that specialize in fixing honda's and he said 18 is about right. So who knows the real answer to my question? I've search and found only one thread about it and on that thread it says the correct timing is at 16 so im confused. Please help, thanks.

16 +/- 2 degrees is whithin spec, I believe. So being at 18 degrees is fine. I set mine at 18 right now as well.

would setting it at 14 fine? I've also heard of people passing smog on their car by retarding the timing back a few digits.

Retard that bitch all the way. Retarding will bring down your HC's and CO's dramatically. Then after you pass with flying colors, set it back to 18 degrees. The best timing for you motor performancewise... advance it as much as you can until it knocks, then back it off a couple degrees. Old muscle car trick.

they check your timing when you smog in CA and to pass you need to be 16 +/- 2 as mentioned above...so you cant just retard it all the way
