Default Clutch problem? or Tranny?

So wierd thing happend to me this morning, while after i started my car, and i went to put the gear into reverse it wouldnt let me!, so i kinda panicd lol. Then after i just stepped on the clutch a few times, it allowed me to go into reverse. So do u guys think its time for a new clutch?, or is it because of the tranny?

Maybe your gears were not lined up well enough?

Try rocking the car forward a bit next time.

Short shifters will give you this problem all the time

I am not a transmission expert, but this is what I know from owning more than 20 manual transmission equipped honda/acura cars. If you are parked a certain way, sometimes the angle of your linkage kind of keeps you out of reverse. I have always just put it in first, and let out the clutch, then went back to reverse and usually that does it. Can someone second this? Thanks!

next time--or what I do...with cable ys1 trannys and my gsr, before I ever put it in reverse (whether my car is warmed up or not) I always step on the clutch, go to first, second, and then to reverse--and then engage the clutch.

I guess i do it just to align the gears.

works everytime...and it eliminates the grinds.

yeah i get that same problem with my car...like weaver said, i just put it in first and let the clutch out a lil bit and then it goes right in to reverse...it lines the synchros up...and for all who are thinkin of a short throw...leave it for one of the last mods you. i have a Fidanza and its not very friendly...

actually sometimes having the E-BRAKE on will keep you from getting into gears also! Well that's happened to me. Might be cause your car is at a bad angle or position!

Well if you have a hydro car then you will need to check the things that everyone is forgetting. You need to start SMALL and work your way up...check the clutch master cylinder, and then check the clutch slave cylinder. You may also want to bleed the lines. If it's a cable tranny, then might wanna check your fluid level and synchros.

Has your clutch been slipping or anything?

If it happens again, leave the clutch all the way in and try the 1st, 2nd, R, thingy.
If that doesn't help, pump the clutch and try it again. If pumping does the trick,
and the 1st, 2nt, R, didn't you probably have a leak.
and should check the clutch master cylinder,
and then check the clutch slave cylinder.
You may also want to bleed the lines.

Well just a update guys, the clutch problem is resolve. Me n a buddie just chek the slave cylinder, it was BONE DRY. so we then filled it up w/ some DOT3 brake fluid. now the clutch is fine.
