The check engine light came on while i was driving home today. I went to Autozone to get the code, and it was the P1457. Anyone have any experience with this code and how to fix it? It might be the EVAP system, due to water build up around the canister? But I heard this is a very common code. Any advice? Thanks

Try cleaning your canister (purging it) and possibly replace your PCV valve..

it could also be something as simple as you forgot to tighten your gas cap all the way, or you might even need a new gas cap if the one you have now is not sealing properly

i know it's not tha pcv valve cus i changed it awhile back. The canister might be the problem because i've heard that is' real common to get water in there and since it's been raining here quite a bit lately, that might be the problem. How do i "purge" it? Thankx

you wouldnt believe how many cars come into our dealership and have evap codes and it is just that the gas cap wasnt tightened, but im guessing its probably not that. At honda if you want they can do a system test for you with the HDS for your evap system to check for any leaks and also checks operation of the canister shut vent valve. You can also reach around under the car by the gas tank and manually feel if the vavle is opening. My guess would be the cannister shut vent valve and you will probably need a cannister because its probably clogged and the bolts dont like to come out of it. just tryin to help.

Thanks for the info, I thought P1456 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Control System Leakage (Fuel Tank System) is the gas cap malfunctioning. In my case, it's the P1457. I tightened my gas cap already also

I live in quebec so water and corosion is a big problem here and I must have seen 5 civics begin with code 1457 and the problem ended up being the purge control solonoid under the tank was seized open creating a leak through the canister or more like on the side...my two cents

no just the solonoid, but i would have it checked with a scanner first.

a garage should be able to test the circuit with a scanner before to see if there is signal to and from the ecm if there is then take off the solonoid and inspect it. it also should click when testing with the scanner. also i would put the evap under vacum and moniter the system. but it's probley somthing simple like one time you forgot to tight the gas cap and it has the code in memory or something.good luck anyways.
