whistling noise
ok, i just got this recent sound on my car. it does it for gears 1-2, im sure it does it for 3-5, but can't hear it cause of all the road and engine noise.
right during the last 10% of letting go of clutch for engagement, it makes a high pitched whistling noise. i believe its coming from the engine bay. it doesnt make the sound on idle, or any other time, only on engagement. anyone have any idea? thanks

Re: whistling noise (shupaGSR)
yea mine does the same thing. only from take-offs.
if you let go off the clutch pedal around 2000 rpm's it will make
that whistling noise. I have no clue what the hell it is. I have a 97 GSR.
Car still drives fine though, just a little worried.

Check your vaccum hoses for tiny leaks. Also, try and pinpoint the noise by playing with the throttle cable in the engine bay.
I had a similar noise that also occurred when I shut the car off. It turned out to be a tempermental vacuum hose behind the intake manifold.

yeah im thinking its a hose too, but i havent gotten around to check it out. but the thing is, when i was at idle, i tried playing with the revs, the whistling sound doesnt seem to sound, only when the clutch is engaging.

It did that for me as well at first. It could be a throwout bearing squeak, but if its a more of an airy whistle sound, its probably a hose.
Try this. Pull of a vacuum hose from your TB. Your idle will be whack, but drive around and see if it still makes the noise. If it consistently did it before, and doesnt do it now, you know its a vacuum issue.

You might as well wait until you replace the clutch to replace the throwout bearing.
