Car vents stink when on!
It's been a few days now that I've noticed this. I think it's because of the hot weather here. Anyways, when I turn the air circulation off, in other words, let the air in from outside, it stinks as fawk!
The smell is horrible....like.....a very old public bathroom where the urinals are clogged up so bums **** in the corner and nobody ever cleans up........that kind of stench.
It dissappears when I turn AC on. So does anyone else have this problem and/or know how to get rid of this stench?

It seems strange that the odor disappears when you turn ON the A/C, but perhaps your problem is related to the solution above...?

Air Conditioning

If you are having problems with the A/C odor problem, before you shut off the car, run the fan without the A/C for about a minute (or a time that is suitable to you). This will clear out any condensation built up, and clear up the odor. At least it worked on my 94 Integra.

spray some lysol disinfectant in the air vent and intake (not the motor air intake..where the HVAC system draws in air) and then let it run through w/ the fan on/blower on high... you can also turn the heat on full blast and it should go away but in this CA heat doubt u wanna use the heater so try the lysol w/ disinfectant...

If your car is prone to stinking after running the A/C you can do the heater thing about once a week or so, to keep the stink down. I used to do this in my last teg every couple of weeks or so.

Thanx to the replies.
Hey gsracerboi, where can I get this lysol disinfectant from and where exactly is the HVAC intake located? Engine bay?

damn you've never heard of Lysol? you can get Lysol disinfectant at Ralphs, Vons, or whereever you get your groceries in the isle w/ the household chemicals/cleaners.. its just a spray cleaner/disinfectant.. it'll work for a few weeks.. i think the system draws air from under the wipers you can spray it in the vents too...

you might have a leak.. I dunnoz.. I recharged my A/C about a month or so ago and it smelled for a while then went away.. however you said you got into an accident so maybe you have a leak still.. or maybe its just residue or whatever from when they opened up/took out the piping.. my friends cars A/C lines got messed up in an accident and he has the same problem and has to recharge it often but he doesn't wanna spend that much money on such an old car (90's accord)

Another random pic for more attention. bwahahahaha.
Gsracerboi, I'll try that lysol stuff. Are you sure its the vents below the wipers that suck in air?

haha you postwhore, do our cars have filters for the air that comes into the car? I had stinky vents in my mom's volvo and it was fixed by installing a new air filter.

The newer ones like 98+ MIGHT have a micron air filter I'm not sure though I have an old one... 95... but on their other models like accords I think it was around 1998 or 1999 when they started introducing the Micron Filtration filters and what not... I don't own a newer 98+ teg though so I'm not 100% sure...

I did not read gsracerboi's response fully. Turn on the heat and spray the lysol at the plastic area behind the wiper where the air is sucked in. Spraying in the vents from inside the car will not do much. You have to get it inside.

Re: Car vents stink when on! (vteg)
the problem with the vents is that mildew and mold/fungus can start to accumulate and grow in the venting system of these cars.
what you can do to alleviate this problem is to flush out the vents with simple green, wait about 2-3 minutes then flush with water this should get rid/kill some of the mold.

ummm... that's a damn nice porsche.
Blow your Heater on full blast for a couple minutes and the stench will go away. If it comes back over time, keep doin it. It works.

One time my grandma got a mouse stuck in the air vents and the fan cut it up and it smelled sooooo bad. She was like oh its not that bad, but i almost vomited. It was disgusting.

Ahh, the Uwe Gembella GTR 650, hey Calavera, did you get this from supercars.net? Excellent choice, definately more than enough to kill any of our cars.
