Car Shakes During Acceleration @ 50 mph +
Okay so my 97 GSR shakes a lot at speeds greater than 50 but only when im accelerating. If i let off the gas the car does not shake and any speed below that it doesnt shake. It also seems like that when im up around 80 and i try to accelerate the car doesnt shake as much. I got the front end aligned and the tires balanced. Also checked the rims to see if they were bent, they're not. And today I took my car to my mechanic and he checked the half shafts and he said he saw nothing wrong with them. So now what should I try? Any help would be appreciated. I was wondering if a transmission problem could be causing it to shake???

the entire car? or just the steering wheel and the dash... if the latter, i had the same prob... ran some seafoam thru the vacuum line and that fixed that prob.

there is only one "halfshaft" and the axle joints are what makes it shake under acceleration... side to side and up and down play in the joint ..it will still rotate fine but uner acceleration it wobbles and makes the car shake...only other thing would be the diff in the tranny..but usually its the axles before a diff goes the axle will die...

also might wanna look into your wheels and see if they are out of balance, even the acura manual tells you this

wheel bearings ehh? halfshafts? wtf are you guys smoking...the axles are not called half shafts....the half shaft is the intermidiate shaft and is not what breaks...the axle joints are what cause that...

another possibility is your lower ball joints. if they are going bad, they will create vibrations at high speeds, and the same symptoms, it will stop when you let off the accelerator because it puts pressure on them. My integra had that problem, i thought is was a tire balance for the longest time. Don't ignore the other possibility that is stated above, it could still be the c/v axles, but this is another possibility. Have your mechanic take a look at them.

Wouldn't that be CV joints? Thats what people were saying when I searched for that problem... during acceleration it shakes, but when you let off its fine. Bascially same thing as axles I guess though

not trying to be OT.. but my gf's minivan rattles when the car is between 80-90 mph..could these reasons be the same? im not quite sure about what happens when letting off the accelerator though..i think it does stop shaking a little bit.. btw, if it helps its a 98 plymouth grand caravan or something..

Warped rotors? probally not the same prob as him. Maybe unbalenced tire to.

how do u always know for sure its axle's? cuz right after i switched my tires my tires sounded different and it got shakey, so it might be the tires or brakes, do those first and then see if it still shakes then it might be the axles

I think he was replying to the first guys post, yours is probally an unbalanced tire. Does it just do it when you accelerate? Or all the time? Because if its all the time and you just rotated your tires, probally just need a balance.

Re: Car Shakes During Acceleration @ 50 mph + (Ajax)
i had this problem and it was that the tires needed balancing and some of the wheels were bent slightly. The problem was identical though, after i let off the pedal the shaking stopped, and after about 80mph the shaking goes away altogether. Got the tires balanced and the problem went away completely
