Default Car makes a metalic scratching noise when turning left. Possible fixes?

My car makes a sound similar to a metal plate scratching metal whenever I make an extreme left(steering wheel turned all the way to the left). After closer inspection I'm pretty sure the brake dust shield is rubbing on something whenever I make an extreme left. The question is what could it be and how can I fix it? Now here is what stumped me: It only makes the sound when I'm going a little faster than idling speed. So that means it only rubs at faster speeds and I can't check it after jacking up the car because whenever I turn the wheel while it is jacked up, it isn't rubbing. TIA

you might want to check your brake pads to see if they are worn. i had the same problem a while back and it just turned out to be the brake pad clip scrapping on the rotor.

I had some incompetent mechanic put a tie rod end on the wrong way when replacing it so that the curve of it faced out-when turning the wheel hard to that side the wheel rubbed against the tie rod end. I fyou had your tie rod ends replaced recently then I would check this out.

hmmm...... I'll check that out too.... if it has been rubbing on the wheel then I should see scratches on the wheel too right?

Mine was doing that just before i replaced my breaks. As a temperary fix, just push/bend the shield back, it worked for mine. Are we talking about the rear wheels??

Mine was the rear, but its worth a shot. Just bend the shield like a quarter inch back from the rotor. If you have small enoufgh spokes you can reach between them and dont even need to remove the wheels. While your at it, spray it down with some break cleaner to loosen/ clean any rusty parts.
