Default Buy An Integra With A JDM b18c Already Installed?

hey guys, I've been looking around and haven't gotten the answer I'm looking for. I'm looking at buying another Integra for a commuter (my 94 was totaled when I got hit by an SUV in 2010). I drive 300+ miles a week and the 12.5mpg in my truck is pricey.

My question is... Is it a good idea to buy an Integra with a JDM engine already installed in it? I'm in Cali and I've read they have smog issues do to the one last digit on the block. It's a 1996 GSR 4door with 170k miles on the body and tranny with a JDM b18c GSR engine. Clean title. He claimes it passed smog last week. Has stock header, stock ecu, aem intake and stock cat. No warning lights on the dash. He just did a full tuneup on it. Doesn't leak in the rain and the moonroof works.

I feel like this is a good buy I'm just worried about smog issues or any other issues that could arise with the JDM engine. My 94 had 288k mile in the original engine and tranny and had no issues.

Definitely look for actual proof he passed smog. He could have had a friend that worked there easily pass him. Be careful if you need to pass smog where you live.

There are plenty of usdm gsr swaps around maybe keep looking unless you're getting a hell of a deal and don't mind burning money to pass emissions.

If he passed smog already, he should have paperwork on it.

JDM b18c would have no issues as long as he converted to USDM emissions.

I'm not necessarily looking for a GSR or GSR swap just something reliable I can use for commuting. This one is adult owned and driven that's why It struck my attention. I'll be sure to bring up the smog face to face to see his reaction when it comes up.

Thank you for that link it made feel more comfortable about it. I ran the plate and it is on file that it has passed in 00, 01, 04, 05, 10, 12 and 15. The last one being less than a month ago. I don't know about the time breaks though in between I will have to ask about that.

Thanks for the input I appreciate it. Any other input is welcomed as well.

for sure, i understand he passed already, so did I with a straight pipe, because my friend worked there, being careful is the best plan of action.

A TSX is a viable option... just saying I bought one coming from a properly done turbo tegg, I've never looked back. But if you're set on a integra so long as it passed legally and is safe go for it cheaper then the TSX and V8 truck.

Ended up not taking it. Interior was tore up more than depicted in pictures. Driver side window controls didn't work and there was a few other things.

Ended up picking up a 99 GS with 161k all original. Interior has not a single rip in it, all the switches and accessories work and has an alarm. Plus it had a smog cert and is registered till 5/16.

Sometimes the allure of a GSR is not worth the hassle of the rest of the car.
