Not sure if this is tech enough to be in here. So please move thread accordingly.

I notice recently that my car does not want to start right away. I would hear a click then the engine would start. I wouldn't need to turn the key twice though. Must be the starter right? Same thing happened to my brothers car.

But my main question is should I buy a starter from ebay. This one to be exact:

Says its a Denso reman. At a price of $72.99 and with 111 sold so far. 1 year warranty. No core charge.

That's about half the price of the cheapest starter I can find at my local autoparts store autozone which runs $119.99 but comes with their limited lifetime warranty. Duralast brand. Core charge.

Should I take a risk? I've read in a few threads some people suggesting buying a used one from the junk yard. Would it be better to just get a rebuilt one from ebay for about 30 bucks more then a used? Or would it be better to get the autozone one for 50 bucks more then the ebay one but get their limited lifetime warranty? Anybody have any experience with ebay rebuilt starters? I'm not looking to rebuild the starter myself neither.

Just looking for some suggestions. They both have their pros and cons. Money is a bit tight too.

What about warrany return, are you paying for that?

Your far better off spending the $30, [most likely less] to rebuild yours yourself, easy enough to do. 94

$72.99 no shipping but there is tax. Brings it up to 78 bucks.
As for the return I'm sure I would have to pay for that. I just hope I wouldn't need to return it at all.
I'm hesitant to rebuild myself because I'm not very experienced with things like that. I just do the typical minor maintenance to my car and I don't think I'll be capable of doing so. I'm good at taking apart things but not good at putting it back together lol.

I would get a good used one for like $40. I would trust it over that.

Yeah. I would like to find a OEM used one but those fall under a 90 day warranty. I just called around a few shops. Got quoted 90 bucks for a rebuild at one place with a one year warranty. And $65 to rebuild with lifetime warranty. No brainer there. Looks like I'll go rebuild with lifetime warranty.

If you can turn a screwdriver and a wrench, you can rebuild the starter yourself, however, $65 w/lifetime warranty is pretty good. 94

Sorry to jump on an old thread, but where do you get a rebuild kit? Can't find one locally. Thanks and sorry if it's obvious.

i always used jdm importers. the OE honda starters are just fking rugged.

jdmdirectimport.com sold me one off a type r for $50, lasted the entire time i had my car.

i would autozone it over ebay. this being if it dosent work or fit or they send you the wrong part then you can get a new one right there. Ebay oyu have to send it back wait 5 days get a new one. Or like somone else said find a used OEM one on craigs list for like $30

I never had an issue with starters off ebay. All reman,, starters are done in taiwan or china.. none of them are reman. locally anymore. They are all the same. How do I know , Ive worked at , autozone(4years) pepboys(1 year) and advance(2years). even the different "brands" all get reman.. through similar companies. lol

The same maybe but if it doesn't work either at start up or during the warranty period can you really afford to wait to send it back and wait for it to arrive vs going back to the store? Honestly I'd just rebuild or get one from Advance, google Advance coupon code as you can usually get up to 40% off for order online/pick up in store.

Well I will let you guys know how it goes, got a rebuild kit for just over $30 from a guy on e-bay, includes the two contacts and a plunger, plus new gaskets. Worst case I'm out shipping, as he has a guarantee. Best I get my starter back to good, vs the more and more often "click" no start!

Glad folks are willing to spend time and share on here. Why I come here.
