Default Burning Oil

I've done a search on burning oil, but still have some questions.

I have a 98 GSR.

I know that VTEC will burn the oil faster

I had 5w30 GTX in it and it was burning it like butter. No signs of leaking.

I just put in 3 quarts of 10w30 last week and noticed last night that my oil was at the lower level. Would I loose that much oil in a week? I'm engaging VTEC, but shifting at around 5000 RPM's daily.

Any thoughs. Leaks wouldn't necessarily mean it's dripping on the ground right? I noticed some fresh oil around my header

yep I have the same problem on my 99 GSR....the thing eats oil like crazy...no signs of leaks either...about a month or less after i change the oil i gotta add another half quart to a full quart

right now I am using synthetic blend....

I dunno kinda sucks but I just check the oil often...

Check the PCV ... like a 5$ part and can cause you to burn oil if it's plugged, easy way to check it: disconnect .... shake up and down ... if it don't rattle? Replace it. Should be done every 25K kms.

Like a 1/4" hose that runs from the intake mani to the valve cover. PCV valve is the plastic L shaped piece that plugs into the valve cover.

If it's plugged, excess pressure cannot be recycled back into the intake manifold and burned off ... this causes the excess pressure to look for another way out IE your seals. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's the way it works. Not 100% on the science but I do know that a clogged PCV = burning oil
