Whenever I am coming to a stop, just before I fully stop I am hearing a grinding sound from the rear left brakes. I am going to replace front and rear rotors and pads in a couple weeks, but will this fix my grinding sound? I was thinking of going w/ a big brake kit, but I really don't want to spend more than $600, so I think I'm just gonna get Brembo blanks (or drilled/slotted by a reputable company) and probably Axxis Ultimate pads. Is AEM's brake upgrade any good? I've heard some stories about caliper relocation being a pain in the ***.

a grinding noise from the brakes is almost always the pads.. it's your rotor being scratched to death, fix it ASAP

When u change your pads and rotors make sure your calipers aren't sticking. I work at midas and I've seen a few tegs that needed new calipers cause the piston was froze. If the piston turns in OK make sure you clean off the slider pins and put some silicone. This will keep the slider pins from sticking. Good luck

I'm not so sure THIS is true.
The grinding COULD just be the wear indicators doing their jobs.
And if it IS just the wear indicators, it WILL go away when you chage pads.
And to teds95gsr. I agree with him, 100%

make sure the pins more in and out easy, take them out and molylube them before putting new ones on. Slotted and crossdrilled are not needed just get some blanks

AEMs are a piece of cake to install. Just make sure the rear caliper isn't frozen or this could happen to you...

Sounds like PADS.

When you go to replace them check your rotor for deep scratches if there is any deep ones.

You might want to go ahead and pick up a new rotor also for aorund like $18.00

sorry the wear indicatiors or squeekers i call them doesnt grind away the rotor.
they are also no designed to grind into the rotor. your pads are gone and the
steel backing of the pad is eating your rotor. change asap.

Sorry to disagree. The first sounds one hears are NOT the pad backings grinding the rotors away, the first grinding noises one hears ARE the wear indicators contacting the inner edge of the rotor. One would have at LEAST a few weeks if not a few months of indicator noise, BEFORE the the rotors are in any danger.
And in my many years of driving, the wear indicators DO make a horrible grinding noise. That is their main purpose in life. And if you feel that the indicators don't contact the rotors at all, tell me what the "squeakers" touch , to make such a horrible noise?
In my experience, actual pad metal/ rotor contact, when it happens, CAN be felt through the pedal. Not be the type of noises made.

wsup guys, i'm from the accord forum and i was doing a search on grinding cuz i just did a rear disc swap to my 96 accord and the rear right is grinding like a ****, i was just wondering if any of you would like to have some input on my situation. I just installed brand new rotors with brand new pads.

the wear indicator usually makes a scratching noise not grinding. im not sure what kind of pads you use but it should not make a "grinding" noise. unless all the pad material has worn away the wear indicator will and should not grind into the rotor. this is because the wear indicator is very flexable and not strong enough to grind away at the rotor.

whatever the case change your pads asap.

I see that you live in the northeast. What do your rotors look like? Do you hear a brushing sound as you drive? Honda rotors and winter are not compatable. My stock rear rotors scaled and flaked, causing a grinding sound. I replaced them with Powerslot rotors. I decided on Powerslot because they were cheaper than stock replacements and they have a cadmium plating to inhibit corrosion.

Putting big brakes on the rear of the car is not necessary, as stickier tires transfer more of the weight to the front wheels during braking, thus reducing the rear brake load. All that bigger rear rotors will do is activate your ABS sooner.
