Best Transmission Fluid?
I know I asked a slightly similiar question in a different thread recently, but I wanted to confirm this.
The owners manual says to use 10W30 or 10W40 fluid in my transmission. That seems kinda odd to me, I thought it'd be something around 80W90 or so. Some people in another thread mentioned Redline or GM Synchromesh. Does that stuff come in 10W30/40 or should I not use it?
Please help me out

dawson either use the honda mtl or the gm synchromesh. it says 10w30 in the manual because honda mtl came out after our cars were made.

i use honda mtl, 160k on my ys1. actually when we did my clutch we spilled a whole quart of mtl out(forgot to put drain plug back on) and used a quart of 10w30 maxlife. hth.

So an 80w-90 gear oil has about the same viscosity as maybe 15w-40 engine oil. If you could find 80w-90 engine oil it would really be thick.

Whatever you do, do NOT use synthetic motor oil in your transmission, unless you want worn synchros with a quickness. Regular dino oil is okay for a temporary fix, but Honda MTF or GM Synchromesh is better. Synthetic engine oil is much to slick for manual transmission use, as the synchros require friction to do their job properly. Less friction on synchros is bad. Manual transmission fluid has friction additives to help the synchros function properly.

I used the Synchromesh Fluid from Penzoil on my teg....Not the modified stuff, but seemed like it didn't do all that much vs. Honda MTL. Honda MTL in it now, never had a problem. My ADvice is use a lubricant like MTL, Synchromech, or Redline since you got a bit of mileage on the tranny. You wont regret you did in the end.
As far as the best fluid, no such thing. Preferred choice of fluid : Redline MTL (Not the gear oil)

where do yall get that stuff again? i use to have a website but i lost it.

My buddy at the chevy dealer gets it for me at his cost, ~$5-$6/qt.

i think i have read that penzoil makes somehting similar to this that is much cheaper and can be found at local auto stores..anyone heard of this also?
