B18C1 rebuild/stock refresh
hey all, its time for me to refresh the old gsr motor (im finally tired of burning oil all day!) as the title says im just going to do a mostly stock rebuild here. So far I know im going to replace:
-piston rings
-rod and main bearings (because of oil consumption)
-ITR valve springs
-valve seals
-head gasket
-water pump
-timing belt
-arp head studs and rod bolts (rod bolts needed?)
now Ive been burning oil for almost 3 years now, started off slow but by now its a pretty significant amount (you guys know how it goes with these hondas haha) so im worried about the stability of my pistons and valves, mainly im wondering if these need to be replaced too?
for all those wondering why the itr valve springs and arp head studs and rod bolts, im kind of indecisive on what im going to do down the road so im covering my bases for cams and/or mild boost setups. in addition to putting in these new parts im also going to be getting the cylinders honed and a valve job. this is my first engine build or rebuild so i want to make sure im covering everything so if you see something thats not necessary or something that i missed please let me know guys. my plan is to have a shop install bearings, rings, valve springs and valve seals and do the hone and valve job and then I'll assemble the motor from there (i figure this is the cheapest option and i dont have the tools or time to do the whole thing myself)
now I was looking at a few different parts here on H-T and I'll admit it, on ebay too. does anyone have any experience with any of these parts:

Re: B18C1 rebuild/stock refresh
ya thanks for the input guys, i guess i was just trying to save a couple bucks seeing if the quality of these parts was acceptable. I received quotes on some NPR, NPW, Ishino, and oem honda stuff. I know oem honda parts are going to be quality but what about those other brands, maybe theyre oem suppliers but i dont know..

replace ALL of your exhaust valves, have guides checked for wear. valve job done. replace all seals in the engine. inspect oil pump for clearances. use oem honda bearings in the correct color code if no machine work is needed on the rods or mains. use oem honda rings on your pistons and have a machine shop do the hone and shave as little as possible from the deck of the block and the head to be perfectly true. MAKE SURE they use an ultra fine diamond disc when the deck the head and block or an mls gasket won't seat right.
use oem or quality aftermarket only
the only exception is sometimes pistons when people go oversize, the nippon pistons everyone gets on ebay aren't bad

Re: B18C1 rebuild/stock refresh
ok I will replace all the exhaust valves, intake valves are ok though? and what about reusing my pistons, is that ok? what are all the seals I will need? should i wait to buy the bearings until the motor gets to the machine shop to see what color they are? I was hoping to bring the motor and all the parts needed at the same time

You will have to inspect your pistons and decide to reuse or buy new ones. I got me some ITR new pistons with rings and pins for when I pull the block next year.
