Default B18C1 lost power after high rev, misfire on cyl 3

This GSR (70-80k miles) with stock B18C1 with h/i/e was burning oil for the past 2-3 years. A quart / 1000 miles recently on 5w30. Don't know if it was the Ring or valve seals.

Anyway, the other night the car was rev up high once on 2nd ~8000rpm, 3rd & 4th ~7500rpm, after driving normally for another 3 min, CEL flash. It keep flashing and sometimes it stop for 10-15sec then it flash again. When the car come to the red light, you can feel the car shakes and hear ticking sounds from engine (driver side). After the light, the car went up hill, and you can feel the car lost its power.

Pull over to a ges station, check oil - no problem, just did oil change a week ago. Then reset ECU, start up the car again. Still ticking sounds from engine, flashing CEL. Looks like one cyl is gone.

Next day, read the code from ECU - Misfire on cyl 3. Just as expected. Then did a compression test. About 170 on 1, 2, 4 cyl. Very low on cyl 3 (did it twice). Add oil on cyl 3 and redo the test. Compression still reads very low. So it looks like valve problem.

For those who had similar problem before, did I diagnosis this problem correctly? Would there be problem on the Block as well? Since the car was burning so much oil. As I need to remove the head and change some of the valve on cyl 3, I will replace all valve seals. But would this fix the oil burning problem?

Whenever the car is at high rpm, it will blow out huge smoke fromt the back. Usually on 2nd gear, 3rd doesn't have that much somke or close to none. Do I need to machine shop the head after replace valves on cyl 3?

sounds like a bent valve that is causing the misfire. the oil burning was obviously a problem from much earlier that was never fixed. it is hard to say what is causing the oil burning without being there. unless anyone else has some suggestions, you might need a mechanic for that one. good luck.

stock gsr exhaust valve springs don't like anything over 8000rpm .. being a single spring as the intake are dual springs.... invest in some aftermarket dual springs and retainers... might want to do a leakdown test to check the other cly.. also.... as for seals it would be a good time to change then if u change springs... most honda motors use oil like no other when driven hard... some people change oil brands and weights and instant fix ... my 2 cents fix the head and try diff. oils and weights..

As far as block damage, it is possible that #3 cylinder is scratched up causing the oil buring problem. I have seen a few times (including in my own engine) where there are issues with the #3 cylinder getting scored by busted rings.

There is speculation that MAYBE #3 cylinder gets too hot and detonates and damages the rod bearings and piston rings. Don't take that as gospel, just some FYI that I have heard.

Also, yes alot of people have issues with burning oil when driving hard. That doesn't mean that it is normal. IMO, I good tight motor doesn't burn that much. And I am proud to say that I drive mine fairly hard and attended Expo 5 and I have never lost any oil since my rebuild.

Thank you for everyone's input.

So there is no definite answer if there are any damage on the block (cyl 3). But say if I replace the valves and put the head back together, would this fix the misfire problem. I just want to repare it so the car can get on the road.
