Default b18b or b20 engine swap

Hi guys, so my car has been smoking like crazy and has lost power like crazy, compression is 100psi, so i decided to swap motor rather than rebuild the head and replace piston rings, currently iam looking to get a b20 but i have read that the HP is less than my current b18. Is it worth going with a b20? my friend said that its differently worth it but since this is my 1st honda project i want to hear from you guys out there that have experienced with both engines. and is it plug n play as mine is obd1.

yea probably worth it. they are decent to daily drive i gotta admit that. the 96-98's have the lower compression and lower power rating. if you get one what you want to do is put the 99-01 b20 or 94+ integra intake cam in it. it wont really make it much faster, but it will totally keep it from falling on its face at 5500 rpm. the low compression b20s with the small intake cam are terrible above 5500 rpm.

you will need some sort of tune, anything from a basic street tune on crome to hondata. if for whatever reason you cant do that, you need to bump the fuel pressure up 5-10 more psi. if not they run pretty lean at cold start and wide open throttle

No, because there will be no squizzing of type R cams into a non-vtec head

If you're swapping anyway, do the B20. It will be much better than the 1.8. Take it from someone that dailies a B20.

Oh, and make sure it's a high compression one.

An intake manifold is not the first thing to go after if you want more power. The skunk2 is just going to push the curve way up above where your redline currently is, effectively netting you less power.

You need to go after the typical I/H/E mods, get tuned, and get the thing running perfectly before you start throwing lots of parts at it. You may want to just use the money toward a vtec head swap at that point, the value is much higher going that route than trying to build power on the non vtec head.

You don't need to do anything to that b20, its perfect as is for a replacement. Find the high compression b20 (99-00), if you're looking for a jdm replacement than find one with a weird looking box on top of the intake manifold. Those are the high compression blocks with phk pistons.
