Better for what, the b16 has shorter gears then the GSR, you will be able to accelerate faster. But youll get worse highway gas milage.

i prefer a gsr tranny i just love beeing able to grab 3rd gear on the freeway and pull all the way to 100+mph while the guy with the b16 tranny next to me is grabing 4th gear way sooner than i am so he falls out of his power band. its nice not sitting in vtec at 80-90mph with my gsr tranny as well when i had a b16 tranny i had to whatch my speed cuz i would just sit in vtec on the freeway just eating gas. its all up to u this has been asked about a million times but in the end its all in what ya want.

False. If anything, your fuel efficiency will increase.

Lets examine injector duty cycle.

While you will increase engine speed while cruising at the same MPH, you require less throttle input to maintain that engine speed because of the shorter gearing.

Take a look at the following duty cycle tables for a stock USDM GSR. As you can see, you can be at 4000rpms, but still get less fuel economy than at 5000rpms in the previous load column.

With shorter gearing, ie: B16, ITR trannys, you require less throttle to maintain RPM's on the highway, so your engine load is less, and your fuel efficiency increases.

Of course this all depends greatly on your driving habits. But holding all things equal, just changing the gear ratios, shorter gearing has a higher probability of increasing fuel efficiency.

FWIW, going from a 4.40 final drive to a 4.929 final drive in my ITR, I picked up about 25 miles per-tank, even though my engine speed at 70mph is 4500rpms.

ok so you are saying that if you were to buy a jdm b16 (xsi) and it comes with a YS1 short geared that it might be better running a YS1 that come stock in a 92-93 integra gs?

I'm saying shorter gearing is better for performance and efficiency, so no, the GS YS1 is not optimal whatsoever.
