Default Automatic Transmission shifting a little hard

The car shifts a little hard, has almost 100K miles. I drained the transmission fluid a couple months ago, and added around 3 quarts plus some of that slick 50 high mileage addiative. Any recomendations as to what to do? Is there someway to flush out the tranny or is there a tranny filter?

I would recommend draining it back out and only putting honda brand auto tranny fluid in, and exactly the spec ammount (sorry don't have helms on me, at school).

You can disconnect the tranny coolant return line to flush it out.
Or go to Jiffy lube, they have a machine that can flush out most of old fluid.
I use Mobil 1 ATF on all of my 3 cars.

This system is the biggest rip off there ever was. All you are doing is runing perfectly good new fluid through a dirty filter. There is a filter in there,..honda calls it an "ATF strainer" and upon rebuild or service of the valve body and beside the vain pump. Honda doesn't call for routine replacement of this part because access to said part would require at least an hour or so of labor to just gain access to. Secondly, being a strainer, by its nature only pieces of snap rings, and gears from going back into the transmission. Probably an even better idea would be to drop the pan and clean it out and its magnets. Seeing whats in the pan is probably a better indication then the color of the fluid to tell the condition of things. Changing the fluid is ok i guess, just kinda missing the big picture.

If you are shifting hard its 9 times out of 10 a problem in the valve body. Well, not a problem, but thats where the problem can be found. A simple yet through disassembly and cleaning of the valve body and its components can probably get any friction material buildup out of there. The clearences within the valve body are very very close so even the smallest hangup can cause opening problems....equating out to harder then normal shifts. It is taking more TV signal pressure to over come the gov. pressure partially because of fouling in the hydraulic circuits from friction material in the clutch packs or bands.

Hope this helped in anyway

So, I guess you recomend doing this and then changing my fluid again?
Can I do this cleaning with my Haynes manual, or is it best left to experts?
I thought when you drained the tranny you could only drain like 3 of the 8 quarts without "flushing" out the rest?

Uhm.. that stuff is bad.. my acura legend did the same thing.. i advise this:

Drain and fill with Honda MTF. Repeat 3x with 100 miles in between.

an automatic trans. takes a while to completely drain out, even with the pan off. Alot has to drain out of the torque converter. I think you could probably take this on by yourself. However if you havnt has experence with transmission stuff or arnt too keen with tools yet let someone help ya out.

I just wasn't sure about the valve body? I've never really worked on a auto tranny. I have a Helms manual so I'll probably check that out.
