Default Air Conditioning will not turn on

Ok, the AC does not work. The system was full of freon but will not turn on. The light on the AC switch does not turn on when I push it. The system is now drained of freon but I am curious to know where you would recommend trying to diagnose the problem. I'm not sure if it is the compressor, the switch, the relay. Any recommendations?

I began to refill the system the other day after replacing the condensor and it acts as if freon will not enter into the system. The pressure will raise to 45 psi (where I stop the flow), and when I unhook the "freon input line", the valve in the car shoots pretty much all of the freon back out. The pressure raises to 45 psi in a matter of seconds though, as if the freon is staying inside that little upper hose.

Any info is appreciated. I've searched around and am not finding what I want so if someone knows of a link, let me know.

Thanks.

Joe

I just tested the electical connectors per Helm's and I believe the compressor is actually working. When I connect a test wire to it and another to ground, the engine revs up a bit as if to turn on the AC (not sure if that is exactly what I'm listening for). However, the AC fan won't kick on, the radiator fan is currently not working either. Both of the fans work when connected directly to power and ground. This would lead me to conclude that the radiator fan control module is faulty unless there is something else I should check first.

Any other thoughts?

Did you ever figure out your A/C problem? I'd like to know b/c I'm having the exact same problem. Seems like an electrical problem, maybe a faulty ground somewhere. When I hot wire the compressor, the engine seems to compensate for it, but it doesn't blow cold inside. Also, on my switch inside, the only time the fan comes on is if it's on full blast -- the highest setting.

Also, my cooling fan is not coming on, and since we've been having 100 degree days, I've had to pull over a few times after sitting in Dallas traffic Seems like maybe a faulty sensor? I wonder if the two problems are connected...must be...I don't think there's even a sensor in the radiator on these cars is there? I just bought this car 3 days ago, so I'm not too familiar with it. But I'm excited, seems like it will be a great car once I get these little things sorted out. Now I'm just rambling though, so best of luck on your A/C problems. I'll let you know if I figure anything out. Please do the same for the forum. Thanks dude.

Did you vacuum out the lines when you drained the freon? That might be it.

Nickalex, not to assume anything, but are your fans plugged in? I didn't plug mine in once. Just a suggestion, let me know what y'all find.

check the bolt on the A/C clutch...they tend to drop out sometimes....and the engine will rev higher with the switch on...but won't actually turn the compressor internals.

You do have a thermo-switch which tells your radiator fan when to turn on. Since mine isn't working at the moment and I need my car to run, I disconnected the plug that plugs into the radiator fan, took to slide connectors (the type that connects to speaker terminals), connected those to the prongs inside the switch, and then wired them into an ignition controlled wire and a ground. I have a fan now so that the car doesn't overheat. Just a temporary fix though.

No, I did not have the system vacuumed. Why would that make a difference though?? (not doubting, just curious) I had accidentally punctured the ac condensor and lost all my freon that way. I'll check that bolt though and get back on here.

Thanks for the suggestions. Any more help is still appreciated greatly.
