Did you ever fix the problem?

Somewhat related,
I have a '97 Honda CR-V. Very similar issues, except once it starts, I'm good to go any distance. It doesn't shut off unless I turn it off.

However, if it's not starting it could be 2 or 20 minutes.

I've replaced the main relay, and according to my mechanic/friend it is probably the ignition coil or my distributor.

After reading in this thread I'm beginning to think it could be coolant temp or engine temp parts mentioned before.

I've tried impact maintenance on my distributor but am not sure if that was key in getting it started.

I'd leave it idling but I need to replace a fan, because I overheat when stopped/idle after driving for a while.

Yes. I forgot to post my results. It is definitely the Main fuel relay on my situation. I did not repair the relay as some mentioned in other forums. I bought OEM and since then, the car starts up fine.

I got my fan replaced. Issue let up most of the time. I think temperature has something to do with it. I'll be looking into the coolant temp sensor for sure.

Mechanic friend says it may be ignition coil. Seeing as how I've replaced my main relay it can't be that.

Trying again and again to start it has started to wear my battery down, so it might be time to replace that as well.

I had this problem a few years ago and it was the ignition coil. Changed out the distributor and it was as good as new. When it happens again, check for spark

Any ideas? Thanks
From experience this has happened to me so first check for spark when its not turning over no more. if it is not giving spark then its your ignition module in your distributor(test the problem first, if it bad replace the whole distributor usaully it hard to pull the ignition moudel due to stuck Phillips screws). Or either it can be your car is doing that due to heating/coolant issues(low coolant, leaking coolant, bad thermostate or fan?) Which i doubt. If it giving spark then it has something do with your fueling either your fuel relay underneath the dashboard or your fuel pump you usually can listen to it or check the relay for cracks on solder points. Other common things that can cause this is a bad crankshaft sensor or bad ignition switch.
again if it gives codes check that and less common problem can be you lossing compression. Dont replace parts unless you do some tests and really determine the issue. It can be a simple fix like a ground isnt grounded right or a senor isnt plugged in.

Had the same symptoms and turns out it was a dirty IAC. Thanks for the comment ya legend 🤙.
