90-93 Integra (DA) alternator removal?
i searched and i cant really find anything. i have a chilton book and the instructions arent very helpful. plus it wants me to take off the axle and i understand you can do it without doing that.

You can take out the alternator by removing the oil filter and pulling it out that way. There is enough room to wiggle it through. This method saves alot more time and work compared to having to remove the axle.

Just take the 3 bolts out of the driver side intermediate shaft bracket, flip it down. You will have to push the shaft to get enough clearance to flip the bracket down. Remove the oil filter. Now undo the alternator and rotate it so its skinner to help you remove it and work it down between the axle and cross member. Thats the hard part. You'll have to play around with the alt to find the right approach and orientation of the alt.
It can be done. Ive done it twice before on my daily driver DA.

Re: 90-93 Integra (Muckman)
here's a REAL easy way, i did it this way on mine--
1. bleed the breaks
2. remove the brake master cylinder
3. remove the driver's side wheel
4. undo the bottom bolt of the alternator
5. undo the top bolt of the alternator
you should be able to wiggle it loose and take off the belt, pull it out through the top, removed the BMS gives you just enough room to wedge it in and out. a LOT less of a hassle than removing the entire damn axle
6. put the bottom bolt in first but dont tighten it all the way.
7. put the belt back on the new alternator, tip the top of it towards the wall as far as it will go
8. tighten the top bolt
9. tighten the bottom bolt
10. put the brake master cylinder back on and re-bleed the brakes.
voila!
you should be able to do most of the install from over the bay, makes it quite easy, only thing you have to do thats kinda a pain is tighten the bottom bolt, which you can get to by having the tire off, not even having to get under it.

haha...yea i dont think id ever do it that way.
me i just lift the car up, pop the driverside ball-joint leaving the axle bolted into the hub and pop the inner joint from the intermediate shaft. un-bolt the 2 bolts and disconnect the electrical connection on the alternator and wiggle it out.

I know this is an old thread. I didn't want to create a new one.
Ricebucket, if your still around, in edition to removing the oil filter, did you also have to remove the three bolts from the bracket of the intermediate shaft in order to get the alt out?
Or if anyone like to add any info that would be great!

Re: 90-93 Integra (DA) alternator removal?
Just in case anyone is searching on how to remove a DA Alternator I would like to add a few important things. I've searched on another forum and one guy said along with the intermediate shaft bracket swung down, you need to move the intermediate shaft to the left for Alternator clearance. Also be aware that the intermediate shaft will kinda be dislodged a little from the transmission and some transmission fluid coming out.
