1st Gear
Alrite i searched the forum but nothin has come up with the same problem as mine. So here i go. I think the problem might be the clutch or tranny, but when i shift into first and hold the clutch down.. sometimes it jus starts shaking.. the car is.. and it feels like its about to die... i put the gear back to neutral and den i can't shift anywhere... i usually have to reclutch it alot before it gets back to first gear.
Also, my Reverse gear sometimes is hard to shift into. thank you.

my car does the same but it doesn't shake on me. sometimes i just have to let go of the clutch and put it back into gear. and for reverse u usually shift it in a lil harder then normal gears.

MY INTEGRA DID THAT LIKE FOR 4 MONTHS BEOFORE THE CLUTCH FINALY GAVE. ITS THE SPINGS ON THE DISK THAT HITS THE FLY WHEEL WITCH SOMETIMES GIVES YOU A HARD TIME TO PUT IT IN GEAR. ITS ALSO A TSB ACCORFING TO ALDATA.COM SO IT HAPPENS TO EVERYONE THE INTEGRAS WITH THE STOCK CLUTCH.

i got prolly the same problem on my teg. it won't go into any gears at all. one time i warmed up my car for a long time then i can finally put it into gear. but then yesturday i did the same thing i won't go into gear. then this one time while the car is running, i pumped the clutch for a while then try to put into gears....it worked like it should. i dont' kno how it worked but it worked. u should try that.

Yeah this was the same problem in a previous thread. See the spring in the pic? Also notice where it was grinding against the diaphragm.
Also check for fluid leaks. Could be a slow leak making your clutch start to grab as you hold it, but not likely.

Re: 1st Gear (yrethguad)
well of course i know that i have to clutch it again to get it into gear again.. when i got it into gear once.. it jus shakes like hell and it barely moves.. so i think it is the clutch. i keep steppin on the clutch and lettin it go but it doesn't seem to work.. the only times it works is when i turn off the car and start it up again. and then i barely can even shift. i think the clutch is wearing out .. i can barely even drive it now.. started happenin yesterday. and yeah the clutch is stock.
forgot to mention its on a 95 ls integra.

Sounds even more like mine was. Let me know what it was after you replace it. Very curious. My car had about 180k miles on it when I changed mine so I don't think it was the original.

Re: 1st Gear (eMbrace)
ur clutch is definatly going, it just happened to me.
one day i went out to my car to start it, and it wouldn't go into any gear while running (started in nuetral), so i tried putting it in gear and then starting it and when it did the whole car shaked like hell. Felt like the clutch was partially engaging, rubbing against the flywheel, even with the pedal all the way down.

Re: (94LS_allmoto)
Start with the basics (fluid for master/slave cylinder) then progress into the harder stuff.
The stock (Exedy made) clutches are garbage. Mine became hard to shift and it was one of the spring retainers (chuck of metal).
The new one in the picture is an Action 1KS...the design is much more robust.

Re: 1st Gear (eMbrace)
ok... i jus tried driving my car.. and it runs.. good.. without the gear being stiff or anything.. none of the problems that i have explained are happening.. so wahts the conclusion on my problem? a leak somewhere that is makin it slip? the stock exedy clutches are crap??!?!?! i jus ordered one...

Re: 1st Gear (eMbrace)
If it's what happened to us it's not fixed. There's nowhere for that spring to go, unless some ribs on the diaphragm broke, but I don't think it would work very well after that. Change the clutch ASAP!!! The hard shifting (not wanting to go into gear unless the engine and trans are in sync) is wearing on your synchros big time. Ask me how I know this. If I try to shift quickly in some gears it crunches. My shifting has evolved to avoid it though. It used to be nice just flicking my wrist with my short shifter. I'm not talking about racing, just normal shifting.

I agree w/ this guy, my clutch started acting up on me but then the problem went away so I ignored it (it was slipping inbetween gears). About two weeks later, and with no warning, the clutch went completely out when I was driving to my ex-g/f's house. I tried to drive home in 1st gear and ended up getting in an accident and totalling my Integra.
The best thing you can do is check for fluid leaks. If everything is right on, then it's time for a new clutch. DON'T put it off, I would hate for anyone to be in my situation. Or, for that matter, if anything happens just use AAA. I'll never get my old integra back.

Re: 1st Gear (eMbrace)
If your not grinding gears, then it's more than likely not the trans. I had the same problem with my 92, the car was hard to get into gear, and hard to shift, when I pulled the clutch it looked like the one above in the picture.

Makes me wonder if I pulled the original clutch... Car had like 180k miles at the time. Was yours the original?
