1991 DA automatic seatbelt problem
i have a 1991 Integra RS hatchback 5 spd.
My auto belt is stuck in the down position, so it does me no good. The light stays on also. I tried to pull it back (really hard to do), but once i open and close the door it goes back down like it should, just doesnt come back up when the door closes or car turns on. so it can go down, but not come back up. The passenger works fine. What should i do?

yeah as long as your car hasn't been in a big accident, they'll fix your seat belts for free. acura has a lifetime warranty on their seatbelts

I had the SAME problem... I found the tool in my trunk that you put in on the back pillar and turn to set the seat belt all the way back. After I did that, my belts worked fine and the light went away.
If you have a owners manual, it tells you what to do. I will try to get a pic out of my book.

I hope that this helps ya. I am pretty sure it will. Your retractor thingy is off track and needs to be reset. I avoided making an hour+ drive to my local dealer for nothing......

Gotta love Google bringing up posts from the dead.. **** happened to me going to work this morning in my free-hand-me-down '91 Integra LS (No owners manual to be found to give me the info), just came in from cranking it back with the hex tool and it works again

Re: (traddy)
I wonder what happens in the event that you get pulled over with non functioning seatbelts. These are probably the worse ideas ever employed from Acura. Mechanical moving parts will eventually fail, and if you're going to build a car that'll last a long time you're going to want to have important safety parts in working order. They could have just done manual belts like Canada...

Re: 1991 DA automatic seatbelt problem
Nutshell: is Acura really obligated to fix my shoulder seatbelt?
Background: I have the same problem with my '90 Integra RS hatchback 5spd. The driver's shoulder belt slides to its open position when the door opens, and will not retract when it closes.
I tried the trick that T-Mo outlines above. Belt cranks back as described, but as soon as the door opens, back it goes to open position and sits there and gives me the bone.
I took it to an independent Acura repairman who pulled it back into closed position and removed the fuse from the fuse box by the engine so that the belt would stay put. We just leave the fuse out. It worked, the seatbelt stays closed, and it's no prob to slip it over my head when I set out to drive. (Unlike some others here, I feel unsafe without seatbelts.)
But it created a new problem: the seatbelt warning light beeper will not quit. It beeps slowly a half dozen times at first, and then keeps up rapid beeping till the ignition shuts off. Annoying, and not an option when I carry a passenger.
Reading old posts here and at g2, corroborated by my warranty manual, I see that Acura dealers are obligated to repair or replace malfunctioning seatbelts. But the warranty is not precise in its description. So I called a dealer. He was ready with a Gotcha.
The Acura dealer's service guy on the phone claims that they are only obligated to repair the lap belt, not the shoulder belt mechanism. Testing and repairing it involves removing the headliner and some trim and could run $600 or more, he said. He can hardly wait for me to make an appointment.
Does anybody have specific experience with this problem?
The service guy also claimed that only the 1990 models had that automatic belt, and that it was discontinued because it malfunctioned. He oughtta know, but I see on this forum -- this very thread -- evidence that other years suffer the same problem. What's the truth?

Front Seat Belt Replacement Warranty Policy
I did a little web searching and may have found some ammunition for dealing with the service rep. See attached PDF which a kind and crafty soul had uploaded to another site. This is an Acura Service Bulletin issued in 1996, superseding an earlier one. The gist is in the first paragraph:
"Warranty policy for front seat belt replacement is to replace either the belt/retractor mechanism or the buckle when either does not work properly."
Unfortunately it is vague as to which seat belt is meant -- lap belt or shoulder belt. Has anyone ever seen any specific mention of a guarantee for the shoulder belt?
The bulletin also refers to a few earlier service bulletins, which are apparently intended for repairmen. Does anybody have any of these?
– 2-Point Automatic Seat Belt Troubleshooting (ServiceNews, July ’90)
– Lap Belt Retracts Slowly (Service Bulletin 90-008, April ’90)
– Twisted Belt Buckles (ServiceNews, March ’91)
– Seat Belt Slow to Retract (Service Bulletin 91-050, Revised January ’92)
– Understanding the Automatic Shoulder Belt System (ServiceNews, January ’92)

Re: 1991 DA automatic seatbelt problem
I didn't know they were obligated to repair the lap belt. That is pretty helpful, I just purchased a 91 integra rs and I need to do some work to it. Thank you for one less worry.

Re: 1991 DA automatic seatbelt problem
All cars, [MM&Y] come with lifetime warranty on the seat belts, it is a safety issue, they are warrantied against defect or failure, [this includes the complete or all parts of the seat belt], it does not include damage due to accidents or misuse, [cutting or modifying in any way]. 94

Re: 1991 DA automatic seatbelt problem
I got a 90 integra gs coupe
Driver side seat belt not working and the fuse are good
Some one tell me too disconnected the battery and used a testlight
So I do that and the light turn on and I remove the fuse and light it off
That problem can be a bad wire or the fuse box or cut be the issue
Cuz the motor make the seat belt move are good
Idk what to do

Re: 1991 DA automatic seatbelt problem
I solved the problem by selling the car last year.
But before selling I took it to a different local Acura dealer (San Jose, CA) who had a new Gotcha for the shoulder belt issue, including broken plastic parts in the latches for both waist belts. They said the replacement parts are no longer made, sorry.
