1990-1993 Integra automatic to manual transmission conversion
So you search and search and you find the DA of your dreams, only....... its an automatic!
Lets get that slush box out of there shall we?
I am going to assume you have a basic set of mechanic tools available to you and so will only mention tools which are not obvious or tools that make the job easier.
center console shift boot (90-93 integra)
5spd pedal assembly (90-93 integra, some have cruise control some don't)
clutch cable (90-93 integra)
B series manual transmission (S1,J1,Y1 from the 90-91 or a YS1 from a 92-93)
B series flywheel (to my knowledge any b series flywheel will work)
B series starter motor (make sure its from a manual transmission)
Clutch (if you got a S1,J1, or Y1 then you need a clutch for a 90-91, YS1 is 92-2001
Throw out bearing (most clutch "kits" include a new throw out bearing, pilot and tool)
pilot bearing ( " " )
clutch alignment tool ( " " )
Shift linkage - (90- 93 integra, best to get one complete with shifter)
Intermediate shaft - ( 90-93 integra w/manual trans)
ECU - (in 90-91 the ecu's were year specific, if you have a 92-93 u can use 92-95
Transmission mount (Innovative makes a NICE conversion mount HERE, though it is also possible to modify a stock manual transmission mount with longer bolts and washers.)
pressure plate bolts
Bolts for shift linkage/stabilizer bar
spring pin for linkage, also known as the bitch pin
Tools of interest:
a drill, cordless with some *** behind her is preferred.
drill bit assortment
a long pointed punch ( about 6"+ should do
1 3/4 " hole saw, fairly cheap set at sears: HERE
Right, so you have a huge pile of parts, the sun is out and your ready to begin. I am NOT going to go into the details of removing or installing the transmissions as these tasks are covered in the helm manual you bought when you purchased your DA.
I will however say, remember to disconnect you battery.
Pedal assembly and clutch cable:
This is where your patience will most likely be tested during this project. I found it very advantageous to remove the front driver seat before continuing. I also found it necessary to drop the steering column, so that it was laying on the driver floor, follow these directions:
Once you have the column some what out of the way, remove the automatic pedal assembly and the small ecu like box to the left of the brake pedal. The small ecu controls the automatic transmission and will no longer be needed. When you have these removed put the manual pedal assembly in place and tighten one nut to keep it from falling out of position.
Break out your long punch and slide it through the hole at the top of the clutch pedal lever. Center it in the hole and wack it once to leave a dent in your firewall. This dent tells you where you will drill the hole for your clutch cable.
Remove the manual pedal assembly and use your drill and 1 and 3/4" hole saw to cut a neat circular hole centered on your dent. You can use a rasp or some sand paper to deburr the hole edges.
Your hole should look something like this:
Install the rubber grommet end of the clutch cable into your newly carved hole. Now proceed to install the manual pedal assembly. When you have the pedal assembly secured, install the end of the clutch cable to the top of the clutch pedal lever. Re-install your steering column, and driver side interior.
After removing the automatic shifter assembly you will be left with a couple of large holes, the long oval hole should be permanently covered and sealed. To cover the hole use something resistant to heat as the exhaust resides right beneath it. Maybe JB weld a piece of scrap metal that has been cut to fit over the hole.
If you look at the chassis, right behind the rounder of the two holes, you will see two stamped circles. These two indentations are where you will need to drill holes big enough for your bolts to go through to hold the stabilizer bar. after the holes have been drilled:
I slid the bolts through the holes with washers and then clipped some vise grips on the ends of the bolts to keep them from spinning when i tightened the nuts underneath.
Heres a shot from under the car once the linkage is in place.
In the center console area you will find a couple of plugs that used to attach to the auto shifter assembly.
this plug, it has two fat black and white wires:
and this plug, a 12 pin connector:
In order to trick your car into thinking it is in park you will need to cut the plug off of the two black wires, strip them back and solder them together.
To wire your reverse lights you need to:
connect the yellow wire from the transmission switch to the yellow wire in the 12 pin connector.
connect the green wire from the switch to the green/black wire in the 12 pin connector.
Once you "think" you are done, take a few minutes to look over your work and double check things. Is there transmission fluid in the transmission?!!
Ok good, Now keep in mind with the wiring the way it is, the car will start without the clutch pedal being depressed, PLEASE remember this!
close your eyes and turn the key you are finished!

no need for 5spd ecu just jump current harness from auto shift **** make it think is in park at all times.. so you be able to start car and also remove key from ignition.
but if you have the whole car go ahead and do it.
for all the integras I stripped.

ok so i know the auto ecu will work when doing this but what if you use a manual computer? what do you wire then? do you take all the automatic wiring out? and how do you wire the neutral safety switch

You need a manual intermediate shaft the auto will not work, you may still use your auto cv shafts. If you decide to run a manual computer the auto plugs will just be their with nothign to plug too. If your abs is not working is because of another issue and not because of the trany swap unless you don't have your VSS cable pluged into the mechanical VSS unit.
