** New toys. NO 56k ***
This past weekend we picked up some new parts for my buddys ride. Made some nice power gains -
Type R Manifold
64mm JG ported TB
JG header, with 2 1/2 modified collector
Race pipe
STR Fuel Rail
B&M Regulator
Header was a bitch to fit in this car. had to notch out a 8 by 3 inch whole out of the core support. all was worth it though.

looks like some good stuff there
but I would say he should take off that breather filtere and run a hose from the valve cover to the intake pipe, the engine will run and perform better overall that way.

what exactly does the hose do?

That hose is POV (positive crankcase venalation) air blows by the rings and builds pressure in the block. (No matter what air will get by how much depends on the age of the rings) This breather allows that pressure to be taken out and sent back through the motor. The filter doesn't provide the vac a intake does. So i suggest put it on.

throttle body was $ 100 plus core exchange. to put on the manifold, tb, fule rail and regulator took about 2 hours. Took about 4 hours to put the header on. talk about frustrating. every time we would think it was going to fit. nope. same **** every time. kept hitting the core support. trail and error. 4 hours later it fit perfectly.
i would strongly recomend taking the whole core support out and notching it while its out. we learned the hard way and punched a hole through the radiator while making it fit.
oh well, nothing a little jb weld couldnt fix.

well, pretty much before the bolt ons, the car felt pretty weak. when vtec crosses over now, you feel it, hear it, and it pulls solid. it is breathing great now. time for some skunk2 cams and call it a day.

correct me if i'm wrong, but you shouldn't feel a spike in power when vtec engages... vtec is just a way of making it easier for the engine to breathe at higher rpm's so it can make hp up high to make up for the lack of torque due to the small 4 cyl engine... but back to my point, it should be a constant acceleration, not a jump at vtec... if it is, then the car definitely needs to be tuned... and definitely don't just call it a day after the skunk2 cams are installed cuz you wont gain any power without tuning nice mods tho!

Re: ** New toys. NO 56k *** (DIY)
whoa I didn't notice the heat shield... is that new header underneath the factory heat shield, and if so how was it secured in place? If I get a header I would love to keep the factory heat shield because I want to keep my engine bay looking as stock as possible.

well actually there is a pretty big jump in the power when vtec crosses over. i guess because it is a generic chip in the ecu and it is not for his exact setup.
sorry, pictures are a little misleading. the header is not installed in the photos. it got dark outside and couldnt take pics with the header installed. but if you guys want to see final pics, i will post tommarrow.

I would suggest a VAFC also if you go with the Skunk2 cams...

then tune it and you should be able to make a bit more low end power
