this will only help if your idle problem is coolant related.
Also try a tune up ignition related
-spark plugs
-spark plug wires
-02 Sensor, big one on older cars
Then move onto fuel related
-fuel filter
-fuel injectors
Then vacuum
-check for intake manifold leaks
-exhaust manifold leaks
-exhaust leaks
-clean your pcv valve or replace
As a last straw, do a sea foam cleaning. Search for that one.

i have done my car twice and every time i have done it it made it worst. i looked at it and while the car was running i loosend the 2 bolts and moved it around a bit and it got better. i think im gonna get a new rubber seel. i know hat the reason why theres a roming idle on cars is because when air is coming in the manifold it puts air pressure on the iacv and with a bad rubber seel it has some air leaking out and makes the idle roam from 1000 to 1500 and back and forth. a new seal is good for older cars that have a roaming idle

i have a 97 accord ex 4 cyl and i just recently had problems with my idle control valve and car used to rev up to high and i cleaned it out and put a brand new seel to it. now the car revs down to 500 and even 200 rpm. I personaly dont think its the iacv. i am thinking it could be a fuel filter cause i never changed it (i had the car for a year) i took my battery to get it tested and they told mine was bad i bought a new one. its doing the same problem so if anyone has any input please tell me. also they tested the alternator and said it was good

Well, regardless when the IACV is removed it should be tested to see if it actually works.
When the two terminals on the IACV are measured with an Ohm-meter, it must vary between 8-15 Ohms. If not, the IACV must be replaced.

Re: cheesefries (skinnyshugg [V2])
Nice write up. This should help me out with the problem that i am having right now. I started my car the other day and the RPM was fluctuationg from 500 to 100 and engine almost turning off completely. I would rev it and RPM would still drop. I turned it off and back on and it went away. However, the following day it did it again and wont go away. If its not this it could be my TPS or FITV.

Is the IACV a dealer only item?
I've cleaned mine out, but I still have problems with my high cold idle and sluggish acceleration when the engine is relatively cold.

I took IACV and i notice there was a screen and its complete black what should i do? i have 1991 Honda civic DPFI, and i have a pretty rough idle from 1000rpm to 2500, and the idle really rough and i tried drive it and i cant go over 3500rpm at all does that IACV could be the effective?

Clean the screen on the IACV.
I think the problem with your motor though lies in the ignition or timing area. Check to be sure your timing is right, check the plugs and wires, cap, rotor.
